It seems he does! How about that!
The point that still stands is there's still plenty of risk going along with a player like Letang. I don't think you need to be medically trained to realized that either - Giroux_Is_God[/img]
I'm sure there is risk involved. But the question is how much risk? Is there so much risk involved that it would scare a team from acquiring the player? That's really the question isn't it? Is it not possible for a person to completely recover from the medical event he had, and live a normal life going forward once the issue is repaired? And for an athlete to resume his playing career? I would think if there is that much of a risk, he wouldn't be cleared to play.

if letang's doctor's really thought his risk of another stroke was high, they would not clear him to play
so he had a problem, it was found and corrected, and they feel that his career as a pro hockey player is safe to continue
do these doctors know everything? of course not, but in their opinion his risk of another event must be very small
now if he has another event then they will all look stupid and try to back track, but I seriously don't think his doctor's would let him play if they thought it was a big risk |

Seems like Laughton could be the 3rd line Center soon and Coots moves up. As much as I like Brayden Schenn he becomes a bit more expendable in trade talks. |

Grossmann has injury concerns and Streit has age concerns relative to his contract.
I just don't think teams will be banging down the doors for 3rd pairing defenseman until the TDL. - PhillySportsGuy
You never know. Injuries to a team can occur. It's happened with the Flyers before. There is always a market for solid defenseman in the League. The Flyers would have no problem moving Grossmann if they decided to do so.

its believed that an embolus from the heart is the cause of stroke in people with septal defects (cardiac source of emboli are the accepted cause of stroke in atrial fib, and likely the cause in vsd).
but in vsd, it isn't known as a fact, it is an accepted theory
the fact is that septal defects are very common, I read a study saying that said ~ 40% of people are found to have them at autopsy.
the interesting thing is not all of the people with septal defects have strokes
usually the risk goes up with larger defects, and with people who have risks for forming venous blood clots
I think with Letang the most one can say is his health is at higher risk in the future
he may never have another event hopefully, but he is a higher risk then someone who never had a septal defect. the future is really hard to predict, even knowing and understanding what happened to him - Marc D
Yeah I read that 40% number as well. It seems easy to say the size of the hole is the main risk factor for stroke? (In the case of a septal defect that is)
Anyway, I love this stuff. Hated my professor though.
I thought the coolest thing ever is neoprofen being used on neonates to close a septal defect. It's just ibuprofen...we use it as adults as an anti inflammatory! I'm sire the concentration is different, but i thought that was awesome. |

it would have to be a top three defenseman or a top six winger of comparable age if I was trading him |

all I know is every person having a stroke is recommended to have an echocardiogram these days to look for embolic causes of the stroke |

I'm just saying the idea of moving Grossmann at the beginning of the season may sound easier than it is. If Alt proves to be better than Grossmann, how will teams be able to evaluate him and know he is fully healthy again? It would be a risk taking him on at 2yr $3.5M without seeing him play for any extended period of time. |

They would see him play in pre season, and evaluate him medically.

Might be that Laughton is the expendable one. It's wide open up front, I could see anyone not named Giroux or Couturier playing wing this upcoming season. Ditto for the possibility if being traded.
From what he's said, Hextall has no issue with centers playing wing-and from what LA has done, it's a practice there as well with Carter & Lewis playing wing for the Kings |

Yeah good point. But still, that's his call. Can the league tell him he needs to release that stuff? Doesn't that go against hipaa itself??
I'd love to know how that would work. - Giroux_Is_God

We said the same thing about Mez. I think Grossmann will be better than Mez last year, but he's also carrying an extra year on his deal. |

Meszaros had a recent shoulder injury history, back surgery, and a torn achillies. His injury history was more extensive. Grossmann is expected to make a full recover from ankle surgery.

Good points but if I am the GM of another team I think I make the move for Schenn over a guy like Laughton soley based upon the face that you have at least seen Schenn play at the NHL level for a few seasons and he still has upside to him.
Don't get me wrong I think there are teams that would love a guy like Laughton, but I think Schenn might bring back more. |

I agree that Schenn May fetch more of a return, but Hextall was in LA when Schenn got drafted, he might want to keep him around, but who knows, they might keep both.
I just like having young assets |
