Gardiner is Mike Green lite, at best. Very good, but far from a 1D. - jmatchett383
I view #1 centers as guys who can score and play in any situation. It's not like Kadri plays with awful wingers either. |

I disagree with that. He can score but I don't think he'll ever be a true #1C. There is a reason the Leafs fans seem to want to include him in any and every trade scenario. I'm not saying those fans are geniuses but they have seen him play quite a bit - PhillySportsGuy
IYO, is Seguin a true #1C? He doesn't play D, he's soft as Charmin, headstrong and hard to coach, and immature... a lot like Kadri.
(nvm, you just answered that above) |

So, he's basically B. Schenn, more or less? - jmatchett383
Yes. I think schenn has the chance to be the more well rounded player while kadri will likely be the better offensive player |

Lol, if I had my choice I wouldn't build my team around either, but there are teams around the league that have worse options at 1C right now... including the Leafs |

Just coming in late but I think the entire make of the Leafs are terrible. They remind me of the Detroit Lions of hockey. All offense, a serious lack on defense. Sure Kessel, JvR and Lupul are talented wingers but from an offensive stand point. The Leafs were the worst defensive team in the league and one of their biggest knocks were leaving the point men wide open for the other team. Clarkson only adds to how bad their wingers really are. Nothing about the Leafs says solid D. |

I didn't watch a ton of stars games but seguin seems like a similar but better version of kadri. Would like to get Bill's take on seguin. I just feel you're selling him a bit short here |

Put Kadri in between Benn and Nichushkin, in a system predicated on handling the puck, and I wager that you'd see Seguin-like production out of him. - Tomahawk
Phil Kessel doesn't seem to have any issue putting up Seguin-like production in the Leafs system. |

Question for the masses:
While I don't think the Flyers have the worst defense in the league, how many team are there that don't have a better single defender than anyone on the Flyers (Basically, what team would Coburn be the #1 defender for)? So far, I've come up with:
Calgary (Giordano, maybe?)
Carolina (Faulk, maybe?)
Dallas
Edmonton (Schultz < Coburn)
New Jersey (Greene, maybe?)
That's about it. Thoughts? |

I'd rather have Giordano than Coburn, personally. Faulk is a close one, because he's young.
I'm not sure I'd take anyone individual on Pittsburgh's D over Coburn.

On Pittsburgh, I would move Coburn for Matta in a second. And Giordano was a tough one, I'm torn. I haven't seen him enough to say definitively. |

Giordano > Coburn.
Faulk and Greene are debatable... probably are better.
Dillon's somewhat comparable in DAL.
The only one for sure, IMO, would be EDM. Schultz = Mike Green Lite.

I thought it was interesting the next post after this compared Brayden Schenn to Kadri. Kadri is not a very good center defensively. Brayden Schenn I believe is a little better defensively and maybe he Schenn won't become a true number one center, I just find it interesting that people want Schenn at center so badly. Some even considering Laughton for the wing before Schenn. I scratch my head because Laughton might already be the better two way center already and he only has like five NHL games under his belt already. In three seasons Schenn has already seen a lot of wing. He's started the last two seasons on RW with Giroux and Hartnell. |

Florida?
While B Campbell is better offensively, for age and $s I'd keep Coburn ahead of him.

Mmm, think the way I wrote that didn't make sense.
Meant that Kadri and Seguin are better than a good number of the current #1C's around the league, even though they don't play a complete game. Seguin's definitely got a bit more headroom, but Kadri is supremely skilled in his own right. |

I'm glad you used 'might' in that sentence.
We don't really have much to judge Laughton's two way game at the NHL level at this point. |

Yeah. I think this team is so desperate for a player like good Letang, I may just roll the dice. I would want pens to pay some of that deal though |
