He has the upside but he plays the game like, well a kid. He hasn't no concept of the defense part in defenseman. I think he has a tonne of potential but needs a steady stay at home or at minimum, someone with the speed to cover his shortcomings. He'd be great with a Giordano, Weber... steady, reliable. Hell even Smid was better for him... He's not a 4 mil d-man but sadly thats the new NHL...

I think MacT (frank)ed up by telling the world Jultz is part of the core... now the kid expects the 6 mil the rest of the core is getting.

Honestly I don't know what Jultz does that just about any winger couldn't do with a few months of practice. The guy doesn't play defense.

here, here... I would say1.5-2.25 max. I use TJ Brodie with the Flames as a comparable. $525 this past year, 1.75 and 2.5 over the next two. Almost the same point total and uber-responsible in his own end (playing with Gio helps)

Thats the problem I have been stating for a while now with the NHL- the high end talents are not getting completely what they should and the middle of the row and role players are capitalizing on very short supplies... No way should the UFAs pull in money that is even close to Tavares et al... Clarkson, Nikitin, etc are prime examples... Its terrible for the team and cap- while wanting to be competitive... which is why you need such a strong farm team-

I think the situations are so completely different that Brodie is not a goodcomparison.
1. Jultz was courted by the entire league as a UFA, and did just get to 40 points with 11 goals on a sh!te team
2. Jultz is already making the rookie max (3.5 including bonuses or something) for his ELC. his base was something like 925k.
3. Brodie seems to play some defense according to your post. Jultz does not.

I think the new CBA just added greater disparity between how much the players make based on where they are in their contract eligible years... The really good RFAs with good agents might make some cash early (ROR), but owners will try to squeeze every other RFA (Subban) to get value for the player. ELCs are what they are, and everyone knows UFAs have "earned" their right to make stupid amounts of money for middling play (Benoit, Fayne). Basically the vets are taking it from the kids and that deal works for the owners.

But guarantee some dumbass GM will make an offer (like Feaster on ROR) and you guys will be left with the fallout.

What if Schultz contract talks continue to stall and things shook out like this:

1) Schultz for a Centreman

2) Play Nikitin on the right side and sign MDZ or sign Morris/McBain to replace Schultz

So essentially, it'd be:

2nd line C + MDZ/Morris/McBain for Schultz

How would you guys feel about that
