Well Spaling went to arbitration, which the hearings start next week. Sutter did not, so he has til December 1st to sign a contract, or he can't play this season.
- cap1681

Interesting on both ends: spaling is the unknown factor so in all likely, an arbitrator will dictate his compensation and sutter completely lost his leverage by not filing for arbitration....very odd

Wow, Rossi out as Penguins beat writer.

Now he can speculate and offer innuendos about another sport. I hope he get's assigned to women's golf or something....

I know he was once banished by the Pens in the past, I wonder if they finally told the Trib this guy is no longer welcome on our property. I've heard a couple of his comments lately and it wouldn't surprise me.

Im lost. Did he get into trouble to get taken off the beat? He mentions twice in his blog about not singling anyone out.

Sid hates him.

I know zip about the guy. Do find it curious he's out the same day as Dejan.

A 2nd round pick isn't worth much though. At least you get a proven player with Spaling to aid in your depth issues. What is the purpose of a 2nd?

what % chance do you think that player has of being better than Spaling?
- ChrisMS

So, spend over 2 million on a not so good player, or draft a forward prospect in the second round that could develop into a much better player than the afforementioned player? Not a hard choice for me. There are more practical ways of filling the cap money than giving what it will probably take to sign Spalling. All he provides is the ability to play all three positions - that's it. Nothing special at any position.

Rob Rossi will fill Dejan Kovacevic's columnist role. Somebody new will fill Rossi's spot. I hope it's Brian Metzer

Rossi kept talking about something with Geno and his linemates but I never heard anything about it. I think he talked about it on wpxi.

Rossi always was opinionated for a beat writer. I guess it makes sense he became a columnist. I always enjoyed yohe so I'm glad he's still there.

Very solid to throw Metzer out there. He did well with Steigy on Saturday despite everything.

Myself, Metz, Danny, along with a few others went heavily after the Pens during the "move to KC" campaign. It was obviously a hoax in hindsight, but we did our part with limted knowledge. Tolenski sent letters to the front office.

It won't mean much these days but I'll continue rooting for you guys that put the time in and advance through the non-player system.

I'm also higher then the clouds. With what I get to enjoy I feel I can respond to everything.

Edit: Will be choosing my words better. Proofreader is now my 12 year old and babysitter.

I don't know what went down there, but he's a horrible replacement for Kovacevic. I'm a trib subscriber and I've always enjoyed reading Dejan's stuff.

Rob Rossi always reminded me of a gossip columnist. That's why I rarely ever believed anything he said or wrote. Yohe and Molinari are real reporters.

Yohe gets the top role, let's just all hope that that Adamski clown doesn't get the gig as the second guy.

I like Dejan... Dejean created some stories, but that's all Rossi seems to do... The ESPN model, float some provocative story, let it build, then go on some radio show to talk about it. And I hate how he always inserts himself in the story as a person who has more access than everyone else.

Spot on assessment of Rossi. The thing I hated the most was when he would discuss "relationships" of the team/players.......basically gossip. Just awful.

My entering Yahoo for a fantasy league is ridiculous. Hockeybuzz just cost me $150.00 for spam. Huff post has become a sham. Somewhere, someone will come up with something that's normal for us common guys.

Dejan is misguided. There is not enough money for him in the current setup. Zero chance he succeeds with this. I like him, and want him to do well. This is a bad choice.

Dejan for a subscription (frick) website. Rossi for something else??? Ryan...pounce!

Sign of the times I reckon. Someone can start "just" blogging and end up with a page and viewership. Might not be a bad thing either.

- Topshelf Mountain

Dejan has been in the crapper for about a year now... at least when it comes to hockey... Rossi did ok but I'm eager to see who is up next

he's proven enough to get a shot before he's judged. IMO getting a player who at worst should slot in the third line instead of a second who has a 2 in 3 chance of never amounting to anything in the league was a smart move.

Wow... reading a lot about Dejan being good. He was years ago but lately has been god awful. I usually read a piece and at worst think "eh" Many of his latest have literally left me stunned as to how the trib let him publish such garbage. and I am passionate about it because of how much I used to enjoy his work. good riddence. Rossi was "eh" most of the time but I liked how he was willing to butt heads a bit. better than some paid pens mouthpiece.

What about those damn obnoxious members of the in-between, middle ground road that can't pick a side! Everybody in those first two groups can't stand them!

imo this Dejan guy has literally no idea what he's doing. Paywalling his work on a Wordpress blog is essentially asking everybody to not read his stuff.

Also, you can just copy and paste the posts and change the font.

as long as it's not Ryan Wilson I'll be happy.. Let's talk about how he said Spaling had bad possession numbers on a team that has bad possession numbers, I'm sorry I thought he was gonna lead the league in CORSI on Nashville's 3rd/4th line and PK with all talented players they had
