Canes are really hard to predict. They have better goaltending, fowards and d than isles but I'll buy into the Tavares can single handidly win u games hype.

I'm hoping Risto stays in the AHL for the majority of the season. First it helps with development and then it also helps with the tank. I'd rather have Ruhwedel and Pysyk up with the big club then both Risto and Pysyk.

The islanders are the team everybody in the metro looks foward to playing. I don't think their roster looks better to start this year than it has last year. Islanders make the playoffs once because of a shortened season and then follow up being a bottom team with or without Tavares and somehow expectations are high??? Washington has 1 bad season, which wasn't really that bad, and suddenly they are a cellar dweller?? But wait they added halak, guy was replaced by a non nhl'er on his Olympic team, f'n Garbo and kulimen
My personal opinion ofcourse. I see metro
Pittsburgh
Rangers
Philly
Washington
Cbus

Jersey
Islanders
Canes

I see Columbus over Washington and maybe Philly. I like what they've been doing recently.

This was an excellent post...except the last part. I think the Isles will be the surprise of the East.

Yeah...
Why am I not surprised about somebody out there whom thinks the Isles will be the surprise of the East???

I for one would not be surprised if they are on the bubble come playoff time. and go for it.

GOing to be hard to acquire though without a 1-2 rd pick.

The Isles are a hard read for me, to be honest. This season could really go one of two ways for them. Either Tavares being healthy all year helps them stay in the playoff picture for most of the year or they end up just as bad as last year.

It really all depends on whether or not Tavares is up to speed at the beginning of the year. Knee injuries are tricky and not everyone recovers the same from them. We'll have to wait and see. The other big wild card is Halak. Traditionally, he actually performs better when he faces more shots, so their defense not being the best may not hinder him too much. Whether or not he can stay healthy is another question mark as well.

Sorry Michael.. Sure Risto could play in Rochester next year and be the number 1 guy but I think he will ultimately get the shot up in Buffalo and for good reason because he has simply dominated this off season... We'll see what he does in training camp but I'd be very shocked to see him sent down.
- bluengold12

I love the condescending know it all "sorry Michael" comment.

You realize you are putting down one persons opinion with your opinion, neither of which are based in fact. They are opinions.

He has simply dominated this off season? The only thing to dominate this off season was prospects camp. Not that big of a fete. You should dominate that camp just to get a sniff at the NHL.

Okposo was almost a ppg player last year

before that, he was a .5 ppg player

I am curious to see which version of him is in the 14-15 season

Very true. God knows we've seen plenty of guys in Blue and Gold do really well one year and disappear the next (Stafford).

All of these reasons are why it's hard to say what will happen with them next year. There's just too many variables.

Let's start with that I'm fine with the argument presented here. But the problem is who plays in his place? If Risto goes down, who takes his place in the top 6? Barring some more movement(s) / trade(s), I don't think I see him going down to Rochester. It seems like he should be ready for the full-time gig.

I mostly just read and do a little lurking on here but I'm surprised I haven't seen more posts eluding to this.

the only reason to keep risto down, is if the team is really set on tanking for the 14-15 season

Weber gets over 20 minutes a game if the goal is to tank

One would have to think with all the prospects there needs to be some contract management needing to be taken into consideration down the line. To properly set up the players coming up so that everyone doesnt come up for contract at the same time and having to trade players to make sure we stay in line with the cap (in the future). I dont know enough about it, or when people come up for new contracts, but given the "rebuild" there is a level of management of the team in general that needs to take place above and beyond "readiness" for the big club, given the number of prospect contracts we need to manage...
