I'm fine with lecavier being a flyer next year and actually pretty excited to see if a healthy season and steady line mates helps him. The guy scored 20 last year so if he has a good season 25+ goals 50 points that contract doesn't look so bad next July.

That's right. You're talking about one of the top players in the league. Dion is not a major piece. If he was, he would have been moved by now. Someone would certainly offer more than that package.
- Canuckleafer

Maybe Dion hasn't been moved because the Leafs aren't actually shopping him?

As has been mentioned before, what GM signs his captain to a contract like that and then promptly trades him before the next season starts? Do you think treating your players like that will entice others to come and play for your team?

I think the package is actually pretty fair. The Leafs aren't going to mortgage the farm for a guy who may walk their way in 2 years via UFA.

I lived in Toronto for 3 years , so yes I know Toronto . If he is a hockey god at that point he will get the same value in endorsements south of the border.

They wouldn't take Subban because of his pending free agent status.

The difference between Keith and Phaneuf = Stamkos? Doubt it, and Chicago doesn't have the money to pay Stammer.

To the contrary, I think a top D pairing of Hedman and Phaneuf would be pretty solid for the Lightning.

- Kinger34

My point is you need a much better dman than Phaneuf to get this deal done.
No team with the objective of making the playoffs will trade for Phaneuf. You may trade him to Edm or NYI, maybe Fla. Hell! Even Cgy wouldn't take him back!

Great response. So a top pairing defenceman, a projected 2nd line centre, and a potential high 1st and 2nd round pick isn't enough for a guy who they may lose via UFA in 2 years?
- Kinger34

No. Not even close. And he will re-sign.

Ya but Toronto and Tampa Bay both know that Stamkos would likely leave via free agency.

Thus the price comes down cause Toronto can play the "we will be nice and give you return for an earlier year of Stamkos ala the Jordan Stall trade.

I don't buy that argument. The Leafs made the playoffs with him, albeit in a shortened season.

agreed, thats my point, but this is the guy pointing out my statement like it isnt valid because i dont have a source, yet 2 seconds later stating both teams KNOW he would leave via free agency.

Well you are tough to have a discussion with because you don't bring much substance to the table.

You have no idea if he will re-sign, neither do I. And I would love to hear what you think the Leafs would have to give up to get him, although I bet your answer will be that the Leafs don't have the assets to do so, because, well you hate the Leafs.

Hard for Toronto to compete with Tax advantages and weather in Florida.

Really? Tax talk for a guy who makes, and will make over 8 million a year?

Okay.. You don't know Toronto.. He'll make a lot more as a Leaf. And I don't think it has much to do with money anyways. He'll get far more endorsements and business opportunities in Canada due to his fame. It'll be a personal choice for him and nothing more. If he's up to the challenge of pulling off the biggest feat in hockey then he'll come. If he likes the sun and quiet public life he'll choose Tampa. No on knows exactly what he's thinking. But money is last thing he's worried about.

Agreed, and you're doing the same thing back.

Nobody knows what is going to happen. He may sign, he may walk. The only thing that is for certain is he is going to be paid $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

No use arguing with them. They've convinced themselves that Stamkos wants to leave TBay and go to Toronto. Just like they convince themselves every other great player wants to go there....until they don't and they move on to the next one...

Actually have a Bachelor of Commerce degree . Understand economics just fine. I want to see where he has stated a desire to come to Toronto. Also know the dollars involved in US and Canadian endorsement money . Do you ? Do not over value his desire to come home . These guys are not emotional about these decisions . Not everyone is LeBron James.

i'm not a big fan of jvr, i think he plays a soft game

not that there's anything wrong with that

- Flyfreaky

He might play soft
better than Schenn who just plays S#it all the time

one of the best trades the leafs have made in recent memory
lets be honest the flyers got fleeced

Do think the Pens have any interest Penner, Booth, or Del Zotto? Do you think there could be any interest at a decent contract for short term? Say a $1 million to $2 million contract for a year? Thoughts?
