Great response. So a top pairing defenceman, a projected 2nd line centre, and a potential high 1st and 2nd round pick isn't enough for a guy who they may lose via UFA in 2 years? |

The $$ opportunities in TO by far outweigh any money he saves from taxes. We talked about this a couple days ago. The differential between FL on ON aren't much different. Like 250,000 for every 5mil or something. - Arctic_AARDVARK

He needs to use his size more, I agree. But you guys got burned hard on that trade. JVR's game as gotten "harder" since leaving Philly. - LeafsOneBillion

Hard for Toronto to compete with Tax advantages and weather in Florida.

Simply put, no.
If it was Keith or Subban, maybe. But Phaneuf? No. |

I agree the return to Tampa is high, but you have to give to get. |

Phaneuf has been made available for a while now, but without any serious interest from any team!
Seems like your knowledge of hockey is inflated towards Dion's value. Elite or All Star or not, his contract $$ and term is an anchor, no team would pay for - intelligentscorpio
Money/Term is not reduce his talent. Phaneuf has RUMOURED to be available. No GM in their right mind will get rid of Phaneuf unless they got a significant package back. A lot of teams don't want to pay the price that a Dman of his calibre commands. You have to create more holes to fill one. If the Leafs are serious about trading him they will but I don't believe they are. |

They wouldn't take Subban because of his pending free agent status.
The difference between Keith and Phaneuf = Stamkos? Doubt it, and Chicago doesn't have the money to pay Stammer.
To the contrary, I think a top D pairing of Hedman and Phaneuf would be pretty solid for the Lightning. |

Lol have you been to Toronto? Stamkos will become a god if he comes home and he knows it. He's spent years in the sun. Now it's time for him to come to the center of the hockey universe. |

So if he makes 10 million a season , it costs him a 1/2 million a season. that is nothing ? Is that new math ? Endorsements for Canada are probably about the same as he would get just for Florida . Don't see it happening . Nothing against Ontario . Just think about it.
Has he stated anywhere his desire to come back to Canada ?

Ya but Toronto and Tampa Bay both know that Stamkos would likely leave via free agency.
Thus the price comes down cause Toronto can play the "we will be nice and give you return for an earlier year of Stamkos ala the Jordan Stall trade. |

I lived in Toronto for 3 years , so yes I know Toronto . If he is a hockey god at that point he will get the same value in endorsements south of the border.

That's right. You're talking about one of the top players in the league. Dion is not a major piece. If he was, he would have been moved by now. Someone would certainly offer more than that package.
