- Canuckleafer

my love for dion has died after watching him slip into "i've got a big contract and don't give a damn about playing hard anymore" mode

That's the entire point of these forums, no?

EDIT: There's also quality of living surveys. They never have Toronto as #1.

- woopstash

Well yes but you trying to tell him he's wrong about his opinion, good luck with that.

I don't think anyone said it's the best place to live either

Let's get a well-thought out, non-biased Dion Phaneuf discussion going. I'd also like to revisit the Luongo situation with the Canucks. What was his true trade value?

Yes it was his trade value, possibly an overpayment.

I agree that Barcelona is pretty awesome. I love downtown Vancouver, but the cost of living there is so unbelievably prohibitive. Montreal and Quebec are both fun cities, but I couldn't live in Montreal permanently (people there are CRAZY!). Calgary I'm not a fan of at all, but more the people rather than the city per se. Personally, I jut really like Toronto. Lots to do, great transportation hub, and having the wife's family there really helps.
- lumlums

Having family in a place can really help. Canada in general is expensive. Plus you get what you pay for in a lot of cases. Vancouver was incredible. Always something to do and there's oceans, lakes, mountains and beaches and the climate is great. Downtown Calgary is kinda weird in that it's a ghost town. Just gotta find all the hipster areas further south. I just find Toronto to be blah. That's it, I'm moving to Europe.

No kidding. Everyone is right and I am wrong...Steven Stamkos on the 0.0000001% chance he signs in Toronto as a UFA will have all of his current endorsements pulled and will forever play second string to Joffrey Lupul's GotStyle campaign and live in the shadow of Phaneuf's Red Bull contract by signing with that second rate Monster Energy. His deal with the local Chevrolet dealership will forever overshadow anything available in Toronto, the GTA or Golden Horseshoe.
- Deeps27

not sure a guy like Stamkos is interested in schilling for local or regional Toronto companies. guy reps Nike and Tissot already. not really worth his time to appear in a commercial for Bad Boy Furniture. guy like that makes his money with national sponsorships.

Nope, he was worth more. Gillis had his hand forced by the NTC but his trade value was higher.

I'm in Edmonton (*waits for laughter to subside*) and I find it to be a very liveable city... low cost of living, lots of employment, and while the winter sucks the summer is beautiful. LOTS of greenspace, and great leagues for sports etc. out of work. My wife has an awesome job, and we got a good house in the recession for around 250k.. I see why players wouldn't want to live here from October through April however!

Vancouver is very beautiful, but East Hastings... jeez... I've never seen such a derelict place in this country!
