In 2012 Stamkos was 5th in the league in endorsement money. Nobody from the Leafs in top 15. I know it was two years ago but it's the first list I could find and doubt it's changed vastly in that time. And it was under 1 million and still top five. Hockey endorsements apparently don't pay much. - jbs32
Now, now. There's absolutely no reason to come in here and tell people dream-shattering truths. This is a much happier place when everyone is allowed to live their own fantasy. |

I've long forgotten the original argument - and for the record there is a 0.001% chance Stamkos leaves TB at his next contract - but I believe it centred around SS being able to attract a greater $ in endorsements due to the media exposure in Toronto. He'd catapult no doubt to the top if he ever did sign here, but realistically that's not happeneing. Let's not forget the GTA is the 4th largest market in North America behind Mexico City, LA and NYC...people around here may not like that fact, but a fact it is. - Deeps27

(we'll get back to hockey) But does a Stamkos thrive in a hockey market, especially TO where there is no time away from the rink? endorsements fade if the product on the ice isn't at super star levels... - geta02it
I think if someone want to/knowingly went to a market expecting it I don't know hoe much affect it would have on them. |

Not even close.
Toronto proper has a larger population than Chicago, but the greater Chicago area still has quite a few more people. |

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to see it, does it make a sound?
Hmmmm....
How can we know this in the absence of quantitative data? Qualitatively? I don't see why not...but I will need to see some proof to be sure.
Let's do that. 7 x $12M UFA contract and I'll get back to you after the 4th year (so there is ample data to draw on). |

I thought someone showed they don't actually lose as much as we think because of the federal taxes in the states. |

I think Chicago proper still edges TO, even with the declining population over the past several years. |

What a crazy thread. Stamkos to the leafs, Newfs are Grunts(WOW), I think we should be happy with any Canadian team winning and bring that cup back to the home land. I hate to say it even if it's a Habs win. |

It's close, but TO overtook Chicago last year. But as said, the greater Chicago area is higher than the GTA. |
