Of course he will...and Stamkos (like other potential UFA stars with Toronto connections) has played this to a tee to maximize his value. As Proteau (I think) mentioned in his Hockey News piece - Stamkos is certainly not the first, and won't be the last, to use the Leafs/Toronto/Toronto Media as a stalking horse to drive up value. It's shrewd, and every rumour monger between now and 2016 are going to use the interest the Leafs fanbase - which, like it or not, is the biggest single team hockey fan base in the world - to draw eyeballs to their website/paper/podcast/rumour site/broadcast.
Write that down. All of it. |
