I think Stamkos will sign in the KHL cause he could make a lot of endorsement money there. |

I wonder how a McCain's endorsement in Canada compares to say Green Giant ?

Except Stamkos obviously... - fidopro
Stamkos isn't signing here if the status quo is maintained. The team needs to make the playoffs this year and win a series in the next. Otherwise he'll go somewhere where he can win and get paid (like LA, CHI or NYC) |

So that's why so many top UFA sign in Toronto year in year out!!! I wasn't sure... Now I know! Tks! - fidopro
Let's call a spade a spade here buster. I get that Chicago fans are all high and mighty these days, but your team got very lucky (in the same vein as the Pens) by being completely and utterly terrible for a number of years and benefitted from drafting Toews and Kane with early picks in deep drafts. Let's not pretend that UFA's were lining up to sign in CHI before that, so don't get all cocky on us now. Now if you want to point out the merits of this model as a way to re-build a successful franchise then your argument has some merit, but let's not pretend it has anything to do with the city itself these days. |

Where did Tiger Live ? Canada does not have the huge endorsements to hand out . The national deals are where all the money is . He will get those no matter where he plays. - Maximum Signal
Actually in a sport like hockey (not baseball, basketball, football, golf, nascar, etc) endorsement dollars on a bonafide all star would be pretty big in Canada; seeing as how it is our national sport/pass time.
Granted, at the moment, the big deals for endorsements are for players playing in US based teams... however... if Crosby, Tavares, Stamkos, Toews, Kane, etc ever played North of the border they would be very well compensated. |

Who was talking about Buffalo ? The contention is a superstar player for the Leafs will make more than one Playing for Tampa. That is just not the case anymore with how well the whole league gets covered . Plus the tax advantage being in Florida is huge. As one leaf fan said . it is only $250,000.00 more on 5 million . Stamkos will get 10 million on his next deal for sure . That is 1/2 million per year more in taxes playing for the Leafs . That is a lot of Mac's Milk commercials . And the national deals come no matter where the player is. - Maximum Signal
If you’ll notice, I said places LIKE Buffalo. You can insert any small market irrelevant team. |

I'm going to go out on a limb and say there is no way tampa trades for him unless the Maple Leafs eat about 2 million of that salary. |

You are fooling yourself . and not considering the massive tax breaks he sets in Florida. - Maximum Signal
I am considering the massive tax breaks. It's not as much as you would think, easily covered by the endorsement deals. |

Funny how Hawks fans forget about the Wirtz years in Chicago now that things are good.
Not long ago they couldn't sell tickets to home games for their life and they blacked out local broadcasts.
Deep drafts and tanking (as well as winning draft lotteries!) sure did help turn things around.
On a side note... the Oilers by this logic should be ripping up the league... Panthers too! |

They'll certainly have a shot. As things stand now there is no reason for himt o come here other than being from just outside the city. |

It does not matter where the player is to get deals with stick companies , equipment companies and skate companies . Those are national campaigns. Gretzky got all those Canadian endorsement deals while with Los Angeles . Are you telling me Stamkos won't get them because he choose not to come back to the Leafs . Sure Stamkos won't get the Mac's milk or The Brick but how much do those pay ? - Maximum Signal
Let's not also forget that endorsement money would be subject to tax also, which increases the value of potentially fewer opportunities in FLA. |
