Yea, well what doesn't add up? And what does that tell you about your opinion that Butler is a comparable player to MacDonald? Good defenseman are at a premium in the League. Yet he had to accept a one year 2 way deal, and a paycut. I haven't seen Butler play a ton, but I would have never guessed that interest in him as a player would be so low. Obviously the League doesn't think a whole lot about Butler. Either that or he just really wanted to play for the Blues and left a lot of money and security on the table.

You don't really do yourself any favors when you try and make out that a guy who only could only get a two-way deal is just as good as MacDonald. If Philly hadn't signed him he would have got at least $4.5 million a year somewhere else.

I don't think Gilbert is any less of a player because he had to accept 1-year/$1M once, because all the jobs and cap-dollars had already been accounted for around the league.

Just like I don't think that being snapped up on July 1 necessarily speaks to Orpik/Wideman/Finger's quality as players.

UFA is just messed up like that.
