It's actually a good signing IMO. Ribeiro and Neal did well together in Dallas (granted that Benn will not be there, but still) - Frank0721[/quote]

Now they can have the washed up, underachievers line! Neal, Roy and Riberio! Neal might not fit the mold, but he is on his way, especially if he plays with Roy! - cuethenoise
Predators, scraps.. there has got to be a joke there somewhere...

Overheard in the Preds offices this week:
David Polie, mumbling to himself: "We've got 12 poopty forwards on our team right now. What should I do about that?
.
.
.
.
.
.
I know! I'll sign two more poopty forwards!"
Seriously, I know the pickens are slim at this point in the offseason, but adding more players that are "not good" to your team doesn't make it better. They had quantity, but they needed quality. They better plan on Rinne winning the Vezina this year and winning a lot of 1-0 games. Unless they, too, are in the McDavid/Eichel Sweepstakes. |

I think you're underestimating them. Signing these guys to one year contracts when they have a ton to prove is a very low risk/high reward move. This not only positions the Preds nicely with a coach who's known for getting the most out of his offenses, but it gives their youngsters more time to develop. The Preds have an impressive group of forwards in the pipeline.
No one here thinks they're going to contend for a Stanley Cup, but this is a great step back towards respectability again after the last two dismal seasons.

Maybe Ribiero, if he can get his off-ice issues under control. Not so with Derek Roy. I saw him play 70+ games last year under a 1 year "prove it" deal and let me just say that I look forward to the Blues facing him 5 times this season with a division rival. I love the signing, just for the Blues and not the Preds. |

Well I think it's clear that with the departure of Trotz and his defensive based system as well as the arrival of the more O-ffensive Loviolette that the Preds are attempting to bum-rush their transition into the new era of Predators hockey by innundating there roster with veteran offensive forwards.
But, are these moves potentially blocking some of the up and comers from getting quality chances with the big club? Seems like instead of signing a bunch of over the hill mid tier rentals Poille should be concentrating on a complete rebuild starting with some of the prospects that Loviolette can start molding immediately into the type of players and system he wants to employ. |

At least they are short deals. I can't say I am overly excited about any of these guys, but I would be royally pissed if these deals had actual term.
If they are garbage, they will be gone next year or sooner...so whatever. |

Never been a big fan of signing older guys to one year contracts. If you're building a TEAM to be together and hell for years to come, it makes no sense. If you need a guy or two that you think are the depth needed to put you over the top on a run to the cup, then I get it, but the Preds are in the middle of building a team. Am I off base here? - Hokeeguy9
Several good young forwards on the way, one year deals buy some time, are cheap and let you resign them more easily if things work out. |
