I took my son and niece to the practice this morning and wanted to share some observations:

Grigorenko will be one frustrating player to cheer for. He appears to float for long stretches and then pops in 3 quick goals.

Girgensons, Pysyk, McCabe, Samuels-Thomas, and Armia seemed to be much thicker, and stronger than anyone else on the ice. In contrast, and quite obviously, Oloffson, Willman, and a few other invitees were clearly still immature, body wise.

Samson Reinhart also looked a bit undersized and will need to work hard to make the roster.

Brendan Lemieux gave someone a shot to the shoulder/chest after he knocked Lemieuxs stick from his hands. Later he exchanged blows with JT Compher, with Compher skating away checking his cheek for blood. I like the feistiness but it was a bit overboard this early. I'm glad he's a Sabre, though.

No big deal with Nolan watching. He was sitting with TM, Pegula, Devine and about 7-8 other big cheeses. The practice was run by Cassidy, Taylor and several other Rochester guys. Most end to end rushes, 2 on 1, 2 on 2, breakout/backcheck, and 3 on 3 half ice take back game. I could have run it.

They certainly skated them hard. And for being an obviously bigger team (size wise) than in years past, some of these boys have some get up and go.

Good to hear. Just hope they have the drive to bring it when ever they are on the ice. No taking time off.

Thanks for the insight. Wasn't able to attend. I will be going tomorrow for the scrimmage, however. This comment has more to it than Garth's latest blog...

Just read Garth's "paragraph".

Maybe he figured since he spelled everything right, he'd just stop there, while he was ahead.

That's funny. I just made almost the exact same comment to your post in Garth's blog.

I'm watching more of that lacrosse tournament because there's nothing else on TV until 24 came on. They listed one of the "key matchups" for tomorrow as Israel-Germany. Once you get past "wait, they have lacrosse teams in those countries?", you stop and realize: it's Israel versus Germany...and they get to beat each other with sticks.

So true, he had a streak going on the blogs with grammatical and conventional errors

Anyone else see that the NJ Devils have undrafted players at their development camp?

William and Jeremy Brodeur, neither of whom are draft eligible until 2015...

Doesn't this somehow violate teams bringing in players for their own workouts?

I honestly couldn't give you the answer on that. Unless they're somehow Devil's property, I don't think non draft eligible players could even take a contract. Only thoughts would be maybe they really like them and maybe it's some sorta scouting thing

This is the exact same conclusion i came to. Won't spoil anything for those who haven't seen but I recall them doing a similar thing between season 5 and 6, ultimately scrapped it and turned it into a season 6 prequel.

The World Juniors in 2013 exploited him. I've heard plenty of people call him slow. He's going to be good, but if Boston pegs him as their #1 defenseman when all is said and done, I will be very excited.
- buffalofan19

Lots of defencemen look slow on the big ice and I agree he looked slow in the WJR but he didn't look slow to me last year.

I'm going to put it this way: most teams will not be afraid to put their top lines out against him. He's not going to be a match up they're going to bend over backwards trying to avoid.

Nope there is no violation. Last year there were Junior Sabres at camp that weren't draft eligible. You are also able to have college players that haven't signed a pro contract (the only stipulation with that is if they still have NCAA eligibility left they cant get compensated meaning they have to pay for their own room and board)
