Me to.
Plus ROR will play a lot better in the backend. Its time the sabres get more two way.
With Myers lack of play in the backend and not being one of Murrays picks maybe we could get something for him

- hafgod

You put ROR in Buffalo with this team and he gets ridiculed just like Myers does. Not sure he racks up the points without the players he has around him and with a big contract he would get slaughtered by fans in Buffalo.

yup...am thinking most of the younger sabres fans don't really know about him
- Michael Pachla

I'm 47.
Hajt was not under rated nor under appreciated here.
However as was pointed out, he may have been slightly under appreciated by some league wide.
I believe most league wide knew, and understood his value.

"Because of his less-than-flamboyant style of play and complete lack of an offensive game, Bill was virtually unnoticed most of his 13 year NHL career, spent entirely with the Sabres. The media and fans may not have appreciated Bill's play, at least not as much as his coaches and teammates did. In fact during the Buffalo Sabres "glory years" in the late 1970s as a true Cup contender, Punch Imlach called Hajt his steadiest defenseman."

don't really understand trading myers...maybe after this year, but he's worth giving every opportunity possible
- Michael Pachla

I think the "trade Myers" stuff is mostly in context with aquiring a top 6 forward/team captain of the future O'Riley type.

I don't think people really see Myers as a plague, but rather as an under achiever (since his rookie yr) who could be used as trade bait to fleece somebody for a cornerstone player (a long term captain or a potential 40g scorer).

Now maybe you can still get a guy like O'Riley or E. Kane with Hodgson & something else? But I think people assume Myers would be heading the other way.

No one said anything about how long a player had to be here.

Joe Juneau came here with a ton of hype and failed miserably no matter how long he was in a Sabres sweater.

- BuffaloHardHat

He had 11 points in 20 playoff games on a team where goal scoring was at a premium. He was also a fixture on a power play that scored in something like a dozen straight playoff games (it may have even been 13, I can't remember the number it ended at).

If we're going to talk about playoff rentals, here's a list of more overrated players than Juneau was:

Torres
Dominic Moore (granted he played with a broken wrist)
Steve Bernier

And that's without even thinking.

This X1000

People blamed Ruff and Regier for a lot, for whatever reason Myers was expected to be immune to a dysfunctional organization

They definitely did, but I'm of the believer that if you have "it", you'll eventually figure it out. The biggest example of this is Brian Campbell. He was rushed, and definitely could have used more time in the minors than he did. However, eventually it clicked for him. That's what happens to good players.

I think it clicked for Myers this season.

He was at times a great player on the worst team in Sabre history. I don't think he's going to revert back to his short season form.

Generally, the knock on Myers, 2013 aside, is that he starts slow. For this kind of money, and accolades, he needs to be great wire to wire. I'm willing to give him that chance (i.e. I'm not clamoring to trade him, though mostly because I don't think a suitable offer is really out there).

You can't trade him until you find out if the D prospects pan out.

Also, his contract shouldn't matter on a team that isn't competing for the cup. It's not like he's wasting valuable space that Murray could use to get a missing piece, we were all expecting Murray to overpay FA's for the time being anyways

You know, it's funny. Moneyball was just on FX, and there was one line: "it's not about the money, it's about what the money represents". They need to a #1 defeneseman. They need to determine if Myers or someone else in the organization is one. And they need to make that decision relatively quickly. If they don't, they need to figure out a way to get one, either via draft, trade, or (hopefully not) free agency.

Don't get me wrong, they should have waited to pay him, however Darcy thought that he'd be a bargain in 3-4 years. While he may not be a bargain. When you have players who are older like Matt Carle, James Wisniewski, or Brooks Orpik... None of whom are "#1's" making at least 5 million per then IMO the contract becomes a non issue.

Myers biggest problem was winning the Calder. Since then Darcy felt he had his franchise player and threw him to the wolves.

Just watched it again... Love that movie.
I've been an A's fan since the early 80's.
Although I barely watch a game anymore.

The idea that someone is underrated/overrated based on their draft spot is absurd. After all, being overrated/underrated based on perception (or rather, people's perception of perception).

People also forget Briere's shortcomings. He was absolutely brutal in his own end and he was a turnover machine on the power play. He wasn't in any way a #1 center.

- Slump Buster

To be fair Pominville was the only player on that 06/07 that had more takeaways than giveaways.

In 05/06 only Goose did it but Grier, Pyatt, and Briere were even.

Vanek led the team in giveaways both years 164 to 64.

I think it won't be long before Montreal and Buffalo are duking it out for top spot in the East.

Also, I never thought I would say this, but if you are a Buffalo fan I would advise getting a Ville Leino jersey before it is too late. Before you call me insane, hear me out. Sam Reinhart is going to wear #23 for the Sabres, the same number as Leino. On NHL.com, you can order a Leino jersey for $71. There are tons of places out there that will take of the Leino name plate for cheap (including the Sabres store, I believe) and replace it with a Reinhart one.

So if you are looking for a Reinhart jersey in the neighbourhood of $80-90, act now!
