I thought he would get a 2 or 3 year 15-17 million contract but 7 years is a long time for someone that has a very large uncertainty behind him

I always love beating Philly, Boston, NYI, OTT, and TML...

don't really care a whole lot about the others but those teams... I LOOOOOOOVE to beat.

I certainly know that we have had our issues.. I was not saying that we are the pillar of drafting in the NHL. I was not trying to be a hypocrite but just looking into why their pipeline is so bad.

i wasnt sure if anyone seen the interview with tim murray shortly after all the july 1st signings but he clearly stated to the media that he would not be actively pursuing any big trades(focusing solely on rochester), he would only listen to offers from other teams on the phone and bite if someone over payed.

This left me wondering why everyone and not just the hb posters speculate that we are after evander. Dont get me wrong if we could get him for the right price it would be great but i dont think we are on the offensive for this one.

He said he was done making free agent signings for Buffalo (but said he could reassess that)and was going to focus on Rochester. There wasn't anything clearly stated to the media that he wasn't going to pursue the trade route.

I about threw a brick.

My guess is he is listening to offered but not going out of his way after anyone. However the trade market changes day to day so if someone is being made available that he would want my guess is he would call on it. No GM (or smart GM) would sit still and not to try to improve his team if the right player became available

It was largely fueled by Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun saying that Ottawa was not done with trades by a long shot... paired up with their pursuit of Stewart at the trade deadline last year....

Paired up with Stafford's expiring contract...

Paired up with Buffalo buying out the lengthy Ehrhoff contract which caused speculation that everyone else with a big contract could be traded being Myers and Hodgeson..

If I threw a brick every time I read something stupid on twitter there would be lots of holes near me.

Schneider can be good but giving him that term and that amount of money without him ever being the true #1 on a team is risky business. It makes me question if Lou Lamoriello is of sane status at the moment.

Thats a fair assessment, makes the most sense in our situation. As much as i would love for us to make some big trade to get a proven very good/star player i know its probably a better idea to stick it out til after the 2015 draft.

It kills me to see this team lose and tough to root against them but like many of you said i dont want to see us improve a little bit and end up in 9th place with a mid first round pick

I wouldn't say that the long contracts of Hodgson and Myers are the same as Ehrhoff. Ehrhoff would be in his very late thirties by the time the deal is done. Myers and Hodgson will be thirty at the end which is around their prime. I don't see what's that bad about those contracts compared to Ehrhoff's. Detroit is supposed to trade for ever defenseman in the league. First Myers, now Green and probably people are gonna say Byfuglien and Phaneuf. The press there is crazy

I feel real bad for the 40+ year old fans. Being a fan of the big two franchises of buffalo has the equivalence of putting your balls in a vice and giving yourself one slow turn each day.

im only in my 20s and i have to say its already getting old hearing people saying "im sorry youre a bills and sabres fan." Im not the one to debate over who's favorite sports team is better/ my dad can beat up your dad arguements so i simply answer with a thanks most of the time.

Like you said it will mean a lot more to us than possibly any other city when a championship comes our way. I predict flipped cars, burning buildings, and streaking. Most of us were born into it and its in our blood. We cant switch allegiances at this point.

I've done that to other sports fans though too in conversation. You're are the bar and the person you're talking to says their a Cubs fan or a Arizona Cardinals fan, I'm just so caught off guard that I ask dumb questions.

However you're also in California, so they assume you have free will to bandwagon on whatever team you want, and they assume you bandwagon on the worst teams possible. They will never understand the connection and investment in the Buffalo sports scene.
