According to Sheriff Shanny- Toronto's acquisitions this off season should be viewed as accomplishments... So I guess Phaneuf stays - saskoil21
They were accomplishments. Overhauled our bottom six almost completely. Brought in two defencemen who will be tougher to play against, and who actually play defence. |

Not really. Every year the contracts go up, it's the NHL's version of inflation. You can't compare a guy that signed his contract 2 years ago to a guy that just signed his today.
Forgetting all that, he didn't get more than Quick. Quick's contract is worth $58M to Scheider's $42M. Schneider just has a higher AAV. - eichiefs9
Why can't you? That's how agents get money for their clients is by using contracts of other players that have similarities. Explain to me what Schneider has done to get/deserve 7 year 42 million dollar contract. He's 28 and has played 143 career games. |

Kane and Toews for $10.5 each!! What a joke. These players say they want to stay in a certain place play for a certain team then they proceed to fleece them for every nickel they can get!! How can a team have a chance to be competitive when two players take almost 1/3 of the cap!? Chicago is done as a team. |

bryz? is that you?
cory has terrific numbers. he will earn his dough, will be in vezina contention and will help his team get to the playoffs.
it's true that he hasn't won 2 cups like quick but it's also true that he didn't poop the bed like quick did in sochi so there is that. plus he's a ginger so there's that too. that's got to be worth at least a mill per year. |

Goaltending jokes from a Canucks fan....ironic....who's number one for Vancouver this year.....it's Luongo......no wait it's Schneider ....no it's Lack...ohh wait it's Miller Time. My point is teams should not pay for potential |

The east is a joke - OilerFan16
It surely is when you compare the powers of the east to the average teams in the west... Just having to play LA, Ana, SJS, STL and Chi multiple times... not to mention Min, Phx, Col... |

yes, we can make goalie jokes.
the devils gave up a top 10 pick in the best draft class since 2003 to acquire an asset that they could lose next year and had to pay him because someone else would. not saying that's what i'd do but if the devils didn't, another team would have.
sometimes paying for potential works and sometimes it backfires. it backfires a lot more though when teams overpay for veterans based on past performance. i'd rather go young than old. |

Next lockout will not be about revenue share. It will be about non-guaranteed contracts. NHL needs to get away from being stuck in these deals. - Iggysbff
That would be end times.
Worse than 2004. |

I get what your saying but personally I would rather pay for proven with contracts like that rather than potential. |

We would probably be a make the playoffs fairly easily in the east with today's team. The west will be extremely tough. It seems like the top teams all got better in the west too |

over the next 6 years, Quick will make the same amount as Schneider will in the next 7.
Who knows what Schneider will get after that.
In the first 7 years of both their contracts, Quick gets paid more per year. - Feeling Glucky?
So Jersey has more flexibility. That's good. |

4 The Pronger deal seems to be forgotten but at the time of signing prior to the health etc - the term was thought by many to be too generous with all things considered... |
