I'd like to see us bring in another D man, I asked earlier today and I was told " it's still possible".

Talent Analysis on Jordan Samuels-Thomas

Samuels-Thomas is a power forward with size and skill. His biggest asset is his hands and working with the puck in tight situations. He can protect the puck and works hard down low. Also relishes the physical side of the game and is not averse to dropping the gloves.

Future

Over the summer, Thomas switched to the much more competitive program at Qunnipiac University. The move should challenge him to become a more complete player and will take away the “big man on campus” status that he may have developed at Bowling Green. Thomas is an exciting blend of size and speed and is harnessed could be a rising prospect for the Jets.

Who's this Jet we acquired today?

SABRES ACQUIRE FORWARD SAMUELS-THOMAS FROM WINNIPEG

BUFFALO, N.Y. (July 9, 2014) --- The Buffalo Sabres today announced that the team has acquired left wing Jordan Samuels-Thomas from the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

Samuels-Thomas (6’3”, 195 lbs., 5/28/90) appeared in 34 games in his second season at Quinnipiac University during the 2013-14 season, compiling 29 points (13+16) and 46 penalty minutes. In four seasons with Quinnipiac and Bowling Green State University, he has totaled 104 points (50+54) and 162 penalty minutes in 138 NCAA games.

Anyone know anything about him?

I know some on here don't care for the website Hockey's Future, but they had him listed as Winnipeg's #1 RW prospect.

And we got him for a 7th?

To be fair he was drafted in the same round, i think him being the best RW in the system is a reflection of how much work the Jets need to do up front.

The players will not deliberately tank. But this team is built for last place regardless of how hard they try to win.

Not sure. Calgary looks pretty bad too.
Reinhardt should be here. Murray said he has nothing to prove in juniors.
Risto should be here and Maybe Zadorov.
Reason I think all three stick is with McEichel coming on next year. That will make 4 rookies in 2015 that's a lot. If two or three stick and are put in good situations they have a year of exp. to start.
By 2015
McCabe Grigerenko Lemieux Armia may be ready. You can only have so many with no nhl exp.

He's a 7th round 24 year old that's never played an NHL game. He's not very impressive. Probably a depth move for Rochacha.

While I don't dispute some of what you said, why trade for a guy for depth for Rochester?

There are 200 free agents still out there waiting for contracts.

Murray must like him enough to take a chance.

Low risk, low reward. He probably has some talent. At worst, he's a depth player for Rochester. At best, he turns into an NHL player.

Either that or someone on the scouting staff has a mancrush on the kid.

Winnipeg was going to lose him Aug 15 as a FA for nothing if they didn't sign him as per a couple tweets so they dealt him for something.

He must have done something to open the eyes of Buffalo.

They only have a month to sign him.

From my understanding though, if Buffalo doesn't sign him by Aug 15, they may not owe Winnipeg anything

TM is all about player evaluation... i bet he sees a player that putting a conditional 7th on is a low risk potential high reward i am willing to take

its a conditional 7th...... maybe a 7th rounder of a few years ago will be ready to play as a call up when we are good as opposed to a 7th we pick next season..

Right.

We owe Winnipeg nothing if we can't sign him.

I'm reading up on him. He's got some skill. People keep talking about his hands and willingness to play tough.

I mean, Murray could have traded a 7th for any old schmuck. I hate that people are already writing this kid off. He has enough of "something" that TM is interested in developing him.
