Two elite players who are invaluable to their team's success were just extended long term. The habs want to do the same with Subban who is a notch below elite imo at this point in his career. - Cyberhabs
I know Kane and Toews are great players. I would love them on my team.
My question is, are they that Elite? Kane is a point per game player (exactly point/game) and Toews is not quite that.
Leadership, hockey sense, and all that good crap counts for something, but surely they are not "Crosby" elite?
Are those guys the same if they play apart from each other? Or they able to turn an average player like Kunitz into a Team Canada first line winger? |

It's (frank)ing Phaneuf!!!!
Of course money was distributed differently back then. Less teams making the talent less distributed? More people today make the minimum then back then? (if there was a minimum lol) |

I would say toews is Crosby elite with all his intangibles and skills. I would also say Subban is elite as well. |

Mr. Babcock, who do you think was your best player in these 2010 Olympics?
His answer: Whoever was playing with Jonathan Toews.

i think the Crosby/Toews debate is stupid and Crosby is hands down the best player in the world. but are they both elite? yes. Toews is probably the best 2-way forward in the game. Kane is PPG. do you know how many players in the NHL were PPG players last year? very few. and he comes through in the playoffs as well. he doesn't disappear. |

Skill wise Crosby yes but as we know that's not all that counts and Crosby has been disappearing in playoffs of late. |

I like this answer, so then with today's capspace, Toews deserves his contract. Does Kane? |

I think PK has one more rung on the ladder to become elite. I would say he is just below d-men like Doughty, Weber and Suter. I do think he will get there though. |

I can agree with that but this contract will reflect his potential. Having said that I think he's getting a shade over 9 mil for 8 years if he doesn't go to arbitration. |

maybe not. but look at Minny. Suter and Parise. Suter is the better player. sometimes you see these dual signings even when one player is better. |
