Yeah but that won't be the case for the years to come unless he gets traded. Montreal doesn't have any veteran who can step up and tell him to shut up, thus the problem in naming the next captain of the team. There's only a handful of teams I could see him tone down because veterans would shut him up. Boston, Detroit, NYR, Nashville, Minnesota, Arizona, SJS, Ducks, LA.

Agreed. Most of those teams were on my list as well when thinking about who wouldn't put up with poop from a gifted if temperamental 25 year old.

I find the contrast of media coverage for Subban pretty comical.


Sometimes we hear about how much he loves Montreal, how he wants to play here for the rest of his career. Then we hear how he wants out, and signing here isn't in his best interests. We hear about how everyone hates him and he has a terrible attitude. Then there are reports and quotes of how he's turned into a young leader, and may be the next captain.


I'm not going to buy into anything in the news prior to him signing. Neither party are the kind to make anything from the negotiations public, so whatever happens, happens, and until then I don't think we're going to get an accurate idea of how it's going.

To be fair Doughty's contract isn't a good measuring stick. He signed it 3 years ago after some issues earlier in his career. If he were signing it today he'd be getting 10+ in all likelihood. LA gambled when they signed him, and they won out big.

Are you insinuating that PK isn't worth the $/term because of his "1 season with at least 40 pts"? I would suggest that you don't watch PK play much as he will be worth everything he gets. If Phanuef is worth 7 million (to the leafs and oilers) then Subban would be worth 11 million (to the leafs and oilers).

PK is a fantastic player, but not worth nearly 9 mil a year.
Phaneuf is over payed, no one will argue that- but remember PK didn't crack the line up for team Canada this year, he watched from the press box, so how is he worth more than every other defender on team Canada, let alone U.S. Sweden etc...

Over payed my ass. .Doughty is worth about 8.5 mil and when he signs again that's probably what he will get..too long of term YES..overpayed. .no 6 foot 4 major shot hits like a steam truck played over 20 min a game against the opponents best players and is a +16 grow up dude and get a clue
