Keep in mind the contracts for the best defencemen in the NHL were not signed recently. Doughty is a guy you can build your team around. The cap is going to continue to go up the next couple of years. On an open market, someone would pay Doughty $12M. Montreal would be making a huge mistake by taking the boots to PK now or they will be paying him $10M-$11M per a couple of years down the road! |

I forgot that PK filed for arbitration. Regardless, isn't he still an RFA next summer if it comes down to the arbitration decision? - rangerdanger94
Yes, but would be worth even more, then PK could again file for arbitration and be given more or making sure he's eventually a UFA.
Either way, he will cash in big, be a Habs for 8 years. MB has the money to sign him.
I'm guessing PK wants a contract that equals his number 76 million so a 9.5 cap hit.
I'm guessing MB is going for 8x8.
Will probably be 8.75x8
I would be OK with that.

It's insane when you think there's at least 10 other Defenceman out there that are better than he is, IMO. He's a great player, but 9 Mil per? Wow. - Gretz2Kurri
ok name them.... ?
Bet everybody will disagree after #5....
PK is top 8 in the NHL for sure |

Dont be silly.
Hes one of the most electric and game changing players in the nhl. I hate mtl, but watching the boston series was painful as subban was so dangerous everytime he touched the puck. And was unstoppable on the pp.
He has a few warts defensively. But theyre getting better.
At least ten better?? Im sure there are more than ten better defensively, but the total package and that much of a difference maker? U could count those on one hand. - hugefemale dog77

Depends on what you're talking about. No doubt he's a top 3 offensive defenseman in the league. But I can name 10 or even 15 defensemen that are better in their own zone than he is. |

yes for sure, no doubt there.
But we are talking about the whole package : Energy, puck control, stamina, shot, pp control, skating, hitting, etc.... |

If you're talking about overall, then it gets real subjective. He'd be on my top 10 list but other people might value defense a bit more than offense and put Subban just outside the list.
At the end of the day, he would be a top-pairing defenseman on EVERY single team in the NHL. |

It's always going to be the same conversation with Subban. People will say he's not good in his own end. Then that turns into he's not good in his own end because he pinches too much. So it becomes that he's a game changer because he pinches and can dangle all the way around the offensive zone making the other team look silly. So he then becomes great offensively, but sucks defensively.
IMO it's stupid to say that he's not good in his own zone. I think he does the job of a top tier defender.
I think he pinches at bad times, which makes him a liability for teams such as "Team Canada.
However, to the Montreal Canadians who don't have a top tier offence, his pinches are worth the risk. For every bad one, he easily has 2 good ones.
People will keep saying he doesn't play on the PK, but why do you need him to? Why do you want him to? He's skating the puck out of the zone so often that he wouldn't have the legs to play both 1st pairing, PP, and PK. On another team, such as the Hawks, yeah, you wouldn't need PK to launch the attack when you have Toews, Kane, and Sharp. On the Habs, you need him more than ever.
Anyway, as a Habs fan, I don't mind people bringing him down. I think it's funny. It comes from jealousy, an no one has been jealous of the Habs for a long time. |

Pk is a top 5 D in the league. Or make it top 10 if you want.
But he's no.1 when it comes down to entertain and sell hockey. |

Can people honestly think that PK is holding out...frankly,??? He's worth 8.5+ and that's that...if we trade him fine, but he's worth that! He's the core of our team...like Dion in Toronto...lol...just sign him MB, call it a day |

yeah very lucky that bob gainey was GM of montreal too.... every time i see him on the ice i can't believe what he did (gainey)
Marc Bergevin is not that kind of guy, trading a TOP defenceman prospect that every pro scout said is the next big thing... for a 34 years old overpaid center |
