Once he's an UFA and captain, my sabres will surely throw him an I enticing offer. It's starting to look like buffalo will have 2 farm teams given all the placers were taking from Montreal. |

Who isnt overated in your books? You have just spent most of the day putting down Norris defencemen candidates as in Suter,Seabrook,Chara, etc.

Overrated?? |

Ok show me a quote from ANY nhl forward the directly says pk Subban is harder to play against then Erik karlsson
Take your time - 6Karlsson5
I think 99% of people would agree Subban is tougher to play against defensively than Karlsson. |

in a league where only 1 or 2 forwards get 100; this guy has seasons of 74, 78 and one on pace for 88. and averages around 27 mins a night
erik karlsson not elite |

Overated?? - nbboy
Nope, never said this. All I said is Seabrook is not considered Elite.

At the least calling them overrated.

this
says chara is done the same season he just was runner up for the Norris. says one of the best two way dmen in the game ( a year after he was runner up for Norris) is overrated. and uses plus minus to back it up..........
meanwhile pumping subbans tires all day.
I have no problem with calling subban elite etc. but maybe he should try watching a few hockey games that doesn't involve his montreal canadiens |

I honestly have no bias to Chara. But I think his best days are over. This is the season where you see his ice time reduced. Yea he was nominated for Norris, but you know he had no chance of winning it. As for Sutter, he's no game breaker by any means. |

he had no chance of winning it?? says who?
and is this meant to be a mark in favour of your point somehow? he was voted the leagues second best dman this year. how is this in any way anything but a resounding 'the guy is still dominant".......?
his best days might be over. but this remains to be seen. at present, he was still voted as one of the top 2 defenders in the game
while su ter was ranked 4th in voting (ahead of pk), just a year after finishing second. how is this any way not a 'resounding; "this guy is clearly an elite dman"..........?
by game breaker, do you mean 'flashy'? no hes not that. he's a quiet two way defender that just does everything right. hes integral to his team winning games though. far more often than not, he makes the right play defensively, and then can start the breakout the other way.
there a few defencemen that don't play that flashy offensive game but are as good or better than almost any dman in the game. oliver Ekman Larsson is another.
if I desperately need a goal late in a game, id rather subban on my squad. if I want a guy that's gonna prevent goals late in a game and play huge minutes in all situations, id take suter over him 7 days a week.
suters all around game is better than subbans without a doubt. he aint overrated. he's underrated by the dudes who cant recognize how fantastic he is cause he doesn't make the highlight reel play |

Leafs gave PK the bridge contract? You guys handled that one all on your own.
Subban, Price and Markov > $20M. |

yep
I don't think this is even an issue outside of fans who just want to discuss hockey.
of course bergevin is gonna try and get the cheapest deal possible. but he chose the bridge contract route to save cash short term. maybe he wasn't convinced subban was the real deal? which is fine.
but in in that time subban hit it out of the park. it was a misstep by bergevin imo, but either way, now it's time to PAY
id be shocked at anything under 7.5 |

Why didn't someone in the East offer sheet PK @ about $10M per? Especially teams in the same division like Detroit, Toronto where it would have forced Bergevin's hand and in matching the sheet caused him to probably have to trade away a good player.
Even a team like Washington would have been better to push for PK than sign a stiff like Orpik and then spend more on Niskinen. |

well said. and totally agreed about washington
bergevin probably cant let his franchise dman walk. the hab faithfull would revolt. even for the sh1tload of picks an offer sheet would've garnered.
I think its a brilliant tactic to handcuff your opponents.
kinda like what san jose did to Chicago regarding hjalmarsson. even if it doesnt hurt them a ton going forward, it's still a shrewd move.
I guess the rub is you gotta be prepared to pay that yourself (10 mil!!!) if said gm balks and doesn't match |

10 millions + 4 first round picks. Teams would be better off making an offer they know montreal will have to match. Like 8.5 million dollars maybe.. |

I guess 8.4 is the ceiling that switches from 2 firsts, a second a third TO 4 firsts.
even 8.4 would be tough to swallow for bergevin. id assume hes doing everything in his power to keep it to 7.5 |

agreed.
u got your post in first.
but his comment regarding spending a relative amount on orpik and niskanen instead of subban still makes sense |

It is but some players like Doughty and Subban are likely worth it.
Subban sells tickets and merchandise and brings a whole different appeal to a team that has him in the lineup.
But more to the point, Bergevin would match whatever the number was and then he would have $25M tied up on his blueline; about $31M if you add Carey Price in. That doesn't leave too much left for the forward group.

And that's the beauty of Max Pacioretty's Contract. Habs will also have bridge contracts for Gallagher & Galenchuyk. |

Markov better start shooting more on the PP ,that combo with Pk, is starting to look like Macabe and Kaberle .Not saying PK isnt awesome because he is . |
