yes it seems great. colleague paid $130 for a ride from San Francisco airport to downtown San Jose last week and took uber to get back it cost him $38.

who's driving these cars though? just dudes? how does a dude make money and give a split to a company if he charges 38 bucks for a ride from downtown San Jose to San Francisco Airport? Murder?

- dt99999

drivers make most of the money, Uber just takes a small cut. Their costs are very low, so they make their money on volume.

the whole thing is a mystery to me, cabs are so regulated here and it costs beaucoup bucks to get a medallion... car services are also regulated and can only operate in the outer boroughs so as not to compete with cabs... then suddenly uber is everywhere and it's supposedly okay.

Exactly. I'd be (frank)ing livid if I was a cab driver.

Also I refuse to use Uber.

I know that there's a lot of ruckus over the whole uber/taxi thing but the whole medallion/taxi license thing seems (frank)ing outdated.

couple hundred grand to get a license then obviously cost goes through the roof they have to recoup it.

new technology, new competition.

i'm pretty sure i feel safer with a nice white college kid driving his own car than some smelly cabbie swerving in and out of traffic while i sit in a cellpool of poop, urine, and smegma.

if i get murdered once or twice i'll take my chances.
