Effective immediately we are suspending the publication of Grantland. After careful consideration, we have decided to direct our time and energy going forward to projects that we believe will have a broader and more significant impact across our enterprise.

Jesus. They didn't even tell the writers. They all found out via Twitter.

Didn't lose their jobs, still going to be writing for ESPN.

It was a great site created by Bill Simmons when he was at ESPN. After he left, ESPN kept saying the site would continue. Apparently it didn't.

Frankly, Grantland and fivethirtyeight (which is probably as good as dead too) were probably the only good things about ESPN at this point.

For what it's worth:

Chris LaPlaca @espn_chris
All Grantland writers will have their contracts honored. The intent is to use the sportswriters on other ESPN platforms.

In any case, pretty sure if they're fired without just cause, they get a nice severance, no?

Isn't it an employment thing? Can't just tear up somebody's contract. Is it different south of the border?

Some are freelance writers aren't they plus most contracts probably expire at the end of the year. Sounds like by the way some of them are tweeting they are gone.

Hey, remember how you said the Niqab wasn't a religious item? But rather something that existed in middle east cultures? That's who the law disproportionately targets. Those of middle-eastern descent.

But it is a piece of clothing worn by people of that religion, according to their religious beliefs... so it is a religious item... belonging to a religion that mainly those of middle eastern descent follow. So again, targeting a law towards a certain religion mainly observed by a certain ethnicity is really just a proxy for targeting that ethnicity.

Now I know you're going to say that those from the middle east aren't a "race", but that's because you're going to go with the narrow, literal use of the word, and not what the word actually describes in modern syntax, which is bigotry and xenophobia.

Now, can you tell me why you're ignoring the multiple posts about Harper's pro-apartheid past?

- Feeling Glucky?

Before jumping idiotically to conclusions, let me tell you the history of Niqab. Dating back to pre-Islamic Arabia, it was invented by Bedouin (nomadic) women to cover their faces as a necessity to protect the skin of their faces from sun rays and dust storm. It was just like sun block. That is the same reason WHY BEDOUIN MEN WEAR "LITHAM" (Niqab for men). When Islam came, wearing the Niqab (and litham of course) was already an established custom among the Nomadic Bedouins. Netiher the Quran nor the Prophet has ever told women to wear anything beyond the Khimar (head cover that does not cover the face).
Sheikh Al Albani, the most prominent Hadith scholar of our time, said: "people should not confuse Bedouin customs and traditions with Islam. The Niqab is not Islmaic! It is Bedouin".

You're not incorrect.

I'm glad we shared this rift in the space-time continuum together.

So all the Muslims who wear Niqabs as part of their belief system are wrong?

At the end of the day- whether it's religious or not, it's still targeted directly at people of a certain ethnicity. So, racist, bigoted, xenophobic, or islamophobic, whichever word you want to chose to satisfy your semantic boner, go for it. That's what it is.

I wonder what Dopp's stance would be if Trudeau proposed a law banning comically small hats from citizenship ceremonies.

I don't understand why they can't just keep this poop in one thread. It's like they set out to destroy all that is good in life. They know suicide is an option right?
