Having "not Harper" on their resume is a pretty damn good start.

This is generally how it works for every long-term PM.

We find one we're "Okay" with for about a decade, and then they get voted out.

We were generally ok with him because he didn't have a majority, and couldn't do whatever he wanted. Canada tends to be a left leaning country, so once he got his majority, people soured on him pretty quickly.

Not to mention straight up attacking Trudeau being the biggest pillar of his campaign just made him look petty.

Biggest mistake of their advertising campaign. Should have targeted and compared policies, and warn of the Tax hikes that are coming. What has happened in Ontario for more than a decade is now going to be rolled out Nation wide.

How about the soon to be appointed Liberal Cabinet? It's going to based, in part, on whether or not someone has a penis or not, instead of merit or competency.
- D0PPELGANGER

Just to clarify. Penis means they are in? No Penis they are out?

I can live with that.

Agreed that they should have compared policies and been transparent.

But only because I'd like to see them with fewer seats.

They'll always have their "core" voters supporting them, and over the next few years some of those "undecided" voters who see an increase in their taxes, and or losses of their Tax credits will have a better understanding of Liberal "tell them anything to get elected, but do the opposite once in power" type of politics (See Dalton McGuinty)

Then in four years they may decide that the Conservatives were not all that bad as the Left Wing Progressive Media made them out to be.

In Canada, using taxpayers $1 billion-a-year, long-time subsidy, CBC literally ran away with the October 19 federal election. Buoyed by the promise of even more money from the Justin Trudeau-led Liberals and the Thomas Mulcair-led New Democratic Party (NDP), the CBC demonized Conservative leader Stephen Harper—the only western leader with a balanced budget—as some kind of Hollywood, horn-wearing monster, gloatingly sweeping the Liberals into power after 9 years of stable Conservative Government.

Both the Liberals and the NDP were guided through the entire election campaign by top Obama campaign team members. Not all Conservative members knew about the Obama election team running the campaign. The CBC knew but did not report on it.

Big part of why Harper lost was that he did literally nothing to appeal to small c conservatives. He appealed more and more to the far-right of his party and presented the more centrist vote with nothing but uncomfortable social positions.

I typically vote Conservative because of my beliefs in free-markets and support of business, etc. This year I voted Liberal because Harper did precisely nothing that would benefit me.

I mean going forward. Not a homeowner and I make just about the average wage. The difference between 7% GST and 5% GST means basically nothing to me.

You do realize people benefit from taxes, right?

Like, living in a country where the infrastructure isn't collapsing, and where you don't have to chose between a burst appendix or a student-loan sized debt is pretty sweet.

Not to mention subsidized post-secondary education.

So perhaps we should go all out, and go the way of Sweden where they allow you to keep approximately 30% of your earned income after all taxes are accounted for.
