I'm
pretty sure he meant20-30 goals not points...that doesn't make any sense haha
which is still kinda funny though considering he had 23 last year and has only had under 20 once.. |

I think he means that the poster was under estimating the amount of drop off in goals by spezza leaving. |

The difference between what Spezza produced and what either zibanejad or Legwand will produce will be around 20-30 goals. I wouldn't be surprised if we only score 20 less goals with this forward group than we did with Spezza.
Not that I don't think you guys did amazing in getting him and Hemsky, but more that Murray has drafted, developed, traded and signed enough guys to make up for the departure. |

Pretty sure that's what he meant. Don't think you can look at it so literally. Moving Spezza was a move to change part of the culture of the team. If him leaving makes the team more cohesive in terms of expressing the coach/GM's vision then the offense should be fine. Offense wasn't the issue last year. |

Only three teams in the East scored more than Ottawa last year. They had 236 goals, the same as the Flyers and more than 4 other teams that made the playoffs.
Problem is they gave up 265 goals. MacLean and Murray believe they can cut the GA for the year by 50 with the existing D corps. Nobody believes that plus/minus means too much as it is subject to so many variables. But it has to mean something at a global level when Turris is at +22 and MacArthur is at +12. Jason Spezza is -26 and Milan Michalek is -25.
Given the infamous reputation of plus/minus nobody wants to make specific conclusions. But, I think you can generally say, that when Ottawa was playing even strength
-and, when Turris was on the ice it was more likely that Ottawa would score rather than be scored upon,
-and, when Spezza was on the ice it was more likely that Ottawa would be scored upon rather than score. - spatso
How about the power play? How many points did he generate there?

Getting rid of Spezza will lose us 20-30 goals, but it will cut at least that against.
Spezza had a brutal year last year in his own end, way too many odd man rushes and open guys in the high slot leading to GA. I think it absolutely will even out. At worst. - TommyDeVito
At worst, ok. I think it could be worse than that, but I guess thinking that spezza is only one of 5 players at even strength leads me to think he's probably not 3 times more responsible for goals than any other skater.
It was hilarious how people were 'selling' him, for some reason arguing with other fans that he's worth something while literally believing we could have waived him and still been better off. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Ceci came out even better next year, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he struggled. It's just that point in his career. Some guys need to take a step back before they take two forward. Some guys follow a linear development curve. We;ll find out soon enough with Ceci and Zibanejad. In fact, I would say our season hinges most on the development of Zib, Ceci, Cowen, and Lehner next season. If they all play well, we make the playoffs. If they play poorly, lottery team.
How's the hurricane up your way, Army? It's just about done here in NB, not too much damage. - TommyDeVito
Not too much damage?!! you must not be from fredericton....
We went three days without power, large parts of the city still aren't hooked up. Thousands of trees uprooted or broken in two. |
