Donn Esmonde of Buffalo News takes a (fairly classy in comparison) shot at that moron Steve Simmons for the insulting article he wrote about Buffalo after Gorges denied the trade to the Leafs. I'd post but I am on my phone at work.

I'll name a former player actually two that I really liked as a kid

Pavel Bure and Paul Kariya. Really liked Bure's speed and skill and Kariya just seemed like a natural leader.

Well, that was a fun week with the draft, and FA...Buffalo did well in each. While I was hoping for Bennett, Samsung is nothing short of a terrific add...I was torn, especially after he put big numbers after the WJC and then rolling into the Playoffs. Tells me they got a player with character. Then with Lemieux, they got the I'll do anything to win attitude that should play well in Buffalo along with our favorite Girgensons (or most's favorite, ignoring wild rodents). Loved the Gionta and Gorges additions... Character is now in stock in the locker room in quantities.
I'm now looking forward to seeing Nolan's staff...hopefully some guys who know how to coach \teach the youngin's. I'm excited again...not that they are going to contend for anything..but thAt a solid foundation is being built. This is like watching an expansion team in year. 2 ... It is going to be fun watching the development take hold!

I just can't say enough about what Tim Murray has done. Having had no other expectations other than getting one of the Sams, and having had 17 years of Darcy experience, Tim blew my mind. In years past we would have drafted Sam and Lemieux, ordered our jerseys and basically sat and stared at them till they got good because we weren't bringing anyone else in. Essentially what Darcy did with Gerbe and Ennis. Comparatively speaking Reinhart and Lemieux will likely bury what those guys are able to accomplish, but of course that was Darcy for you. Tim went and got us experienced, quality veterans and a good term and a fair price. The pressure is off the kids for now as it should be and the fans of Buffalo will actually see a respectable, professional hockey team this year. With the better odds of teams winning the lottery, and the fact that we lost it last year, Murray did the right thing. Win-win.

I said this on another forum:

Both columnists, and Buffalo and Toronto natives in general that think this actually means anything in this regard, need to get over themselves. This had nothing to do with choosing the city of Buffalo over the city of Toronto and everything to do with the Montreal Canadiens. If you listened to his interview on Sportsnet/NHL Network on July 1, he said he respected the rivalry. He didn't want to be a Toronto Maple Leaf because he felt that would be a disrespect to the Canadiens. He also said he wouldn't accept a trade to Boston for the same reason. There isn't anywhere near the hatred for the Buffalo Sabres as there are for the other two franchises. The Sabres are merely a blip on Montreal's radar screen and nothing more, despite the fact that they play in the same division. In talking to Montreal fans that come down to the arena over the years, it seems to be a common theme that they would take losing to Buffalo four, five, or six times a year (depending on how the schedule is formatted) if it meant that they got to sweep Toronto and Boston. Maple Leafs fans feel the same way. That's how deep the hatred runs, and how little the Buffalo Sabres really matter to either franchise.

Also, keep in mind, Gorges no trade clause required him to submit 15 teams he would accept a trade to. When they couldn't work out a deal with any of them, the Canadiens asked him if he would provide a list of 6 more. Then, and only then, did Buffalo make "the list", and it sounds like it was in large part that it was all but certain his buddy Brian Gionta was signing there.

All this being said, the Maple Leafs are a mess, and hopefully this doesn't cause them to do some soul searching like it should. The Sabres need them to continue to wallow in Buffalo Bills-esque ineptitude for a little while longer.

Agree. But it feels better with the sabres because they have a plan and a full pipeline. You know its gonna get better with the sabres, and depending on how the kids work out, maybe much much better. Bills, not so much.

According to St. James, the asking price for Myers is one of Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar, Tomas Jurco, or 2013 20th overall draft pick Anthony Mantha. The Red Wings don't want to part with any of them.

On top of one of their elite players, Sabres general manager Tim Murray also wants a high draft pick and possibly a second young player.

My thoughts on the subject are that it speaks to the fact the experience of being from Toronto simply isn't that great if you have to constantly bag on Buffalo to feel good. The irony is they think they are so much better than America yet have to constantly search for this validation that they are on par with the great cities of the States. They are looking for a validation that isn't coming. In Buffalo we're the ones that should be looking for validation, but really all we do is hope to be the best we can be. Toronto for some reason just can't accept what they are. A mega city, that is ultimately Canadian.

... Myers is Buffalo’s top defenseman and the asking price is going to start with one of Gustav Nyquist, Tomas Tatar or Tomas Jurco. Buffalo might well ask for Anthony Mantha, but the Wings aren’t relinquishing him. One player alone wouldn’t do it, though — there would likely be a high draft pick involved, too, maybe even a second player, someone in his mid-20s.

Detroit Free Press is suggesting Myers for Nyquist..?

Nyquist is a good young player, but his shooting % is something he will never maintain. He also wasn't very good for them in the playoffs.

A lot of Detriot fans would rather give him up than Jurco

As it should be.

They can go get someone else if they don't want to meet our demands. Not like Murray's actively shopping him (if you believe him) or we have to trade him.
