I just don't like that the team values Schultz over Petry. Makes no sense. One's a guy that's had some success against other team's top lines and would be a good #3D behind a legit top pairing, the other's a guy that is deemed on offensive Dman but creates nothing for offence and is terrible in his own end.

Agreed for the most part. I think Schultz still has a lot of potential and a chance to become a really good offensive Dman. I hope both guys are re-signed to reasonable bridge contracts. If one is going to get a longer term I pray that it is Petry. Jultz should get no more than a 2 year contract to prove he can improve greatly and show some of his AHL production. I would like to see Schultz sign a deal similar to Kassians, 2 year 3.5-4.Petry I would be fine with 2-5 years, money depending on term.

Edit: If Schultz asks for 5-6 per year he is a deluded douche bag and should be kicked to the curb. He has not earned anything close to even asking for that kind of money. If he is given anything close to that i will smash my face into my coffee table repeatedly.

I'm too negative towards Schultz. Again I just don't like this unwarranted notion that Schultz>Petry and I don't like how highly he values himself. Stauffer said a couple times that Schultz and his agent likely wouldn't accept Mcdonagh's contract (4.7M AAV).

maybe if he gets the right partner and the right sheltering he could turn out to be a Yandle-lite. My kind of Dmen are the unspectacular ones that don't need sheltering like Petry and Fayne

I expected a big step forward from Schultz this season and if anything, he took a step back.

Hopefully Ramsay turns him around

If this is true (frank) him. He has done nothing in the NHL to deserve this. P.K. hopefully set a precedent with his prove it contract. Schultz has proven a lot less so...

Ference is overrated but unspectacular in the wrong ways. Fans around the league think Ference was/is EDM's best Dman, when he was probably 3rd or 4th last year(Petry, Marincin, maybe Schultz), might be 5th or 6th this year

I mean unspectacular in that you rarely notice them, and when you do it's for the right reasons.

Stauffer's crazy connected. He asks EDM management about players.

He's also said since, that Schultz's getting about a 2 year bridge deal

How did Schultz get to EDM in the first place?

Thats why I used it. I don't take everything I hear as absolute.
there has been so much bullpoop come out of "trusted" or "inside" men that it all has to be taken with a grain of salt. Words easily get skewed from one mouth to another. So many on here say how they heard Horcoff was hated by the kids and a horrible guy, I have yet to see one reputable source cited to back up those claims.

You've formed your whole opinion of him centered around unsubstantiated rumours...

So what if he came here as a free agent. He had a unique set of circumstances that allowed him to do so. Do you hate every UFA that leaves their teams without compensation? Is Stastny, Niskanen, Vanek etc all in the same boat? Its hockey. We heard all sorts of poop about guys like Kadri and Subban from the so called "connected" guys when they came off their ELC's. Then the players come out and say none of it is true and they ended up signing deals no where near what the "connected" guys said they would.

Schultz told Anaheim management that he had every intention in signing with them, then turned around and signed with the team that would pay him the most and where he'd instantly play top pairing minutes. If there was a loophole that allowed Nurse to do that and he did, would he be a greedy weasel or just a regular UFA that we shouldn't be mad about not getting any compensation for?

Dreger saying that Kadri wants blank amount of money is different than a guy that travels with the team, speaks off the record with management, and constantly lets out oilers info before the MSM.

Stauffer's word is gold and there's yet to be an instance where he's led people to believe things that were completely wrong.

All teams offered Shultz the same ELC and he was not guaranteed top minutes with the Oilers. Guys like Parise and Suter both told their management that they had every intention of re-signing. They left. It's the GM's fault and no one else. If you want to keep them then get them signed. If they dont sign then trade the (frank)er.

If Shultz is really about the money then we will find out. If he signs an offer sheet with someone else or holds out or something then I'll be right with you. But not yet with no real info to go on.

and there's a big big difference between leaving your team at 27 after 7 seasons and leaving your team at 21 before playing a single game.

again, imagine Nurse somehow found a loophole then signed for a max ELC in Vancouver. Is he looking out for the best in his career? or is he a greedy (frank)?

what do you think we would have to give up for Patrick sharp.

if we swap lander or arcobello the hawks would move to about 3 mill in available space.

would the hawks take a gernat maybe a 3rd round pick to round out the deal?

I dunno....but I do know that the time will come when Oilers fans will hate Nurse because he isn't instantly Chris Pronger, and he won't be until he hits his mid-twenties. I would just as soon let him develop the best he can for 2 more seasons (1 jr, 1 AHL) and just try to build without him until the timing is right.

Reading this again, it could easily just mean he doesn't want to sign a 5+ year contract. He may want to sign the bridge contract to (try to) prove himself and earn a bigger pay day. Either way has its risks, long term he could be a bust, bridge, he has a Subban type next couple years and gets PAID.

Schultz looked good in his own end in the AHL. I think it's just a can't handle NHL forwards kind of (huge) problem

I think some teams around the league might still think highly of him. Teams without strong analytics.

Colorado, maybe? Schultz+2015 1st+ for ROR+2015 1st? Colorado needs D, they think they're a contender, EDM's 1st is a shot at Mcdavid, don't have to pay ROR 6.5+M, and they don't know that Schultz isn't all that good

worth asking at least. Might get hung up instantly

- TheNugeIsHuge

I'd do that in a heartbeat... ROR is great IMO, there is our 2C while giving up a guy yhat isn't very good IMO.
