You need bridge contracts for your superstars. Crosby and Malkin were too damn good and the Penguins never had that luxury. Chicago is going to find out after this season what its like to not have a bridge contract cap hit for Toews/Kane

Interesting point.

I guess I missed the bad buzz surrounding him. People think he's a problem?

At that point, you write it off as the cost of doing business. The idea is to win multiple cups as quickly as possible. You sign Kane (and Toews) knowing full well there's a possibility you may buy them out 8 years down the road.

Compliance buyouts no longer exist . This was the last year.

People think he is going to spend more time on the IR than he will on the ice.

They say that about Gaborik and Hemsky too. I'll take my chances with high end talent.

They can't let Kane walk for nothing. They either pay him or move him for a haul.

My best guess is sign and trade.

- dadeadhead

Sign & trade Kane to Buffalo for our 1st (or 2nd) overall pick next yr.

Moulson/Reinhart/P.Kane? Talk about kick starting a rebuild... Golly!

Tho it be waaaay better to just sign him as a UFA.

IF we are drafting 1st next year, I'll take McDavid over Kane 100/100 times.

Regular buyouts still do. They'll take a cap hit, though a significantly lesser one. That is also factored into the cost.

Even if doing so results in us getting McEichel?

Gotta look at the big picture and not forget the plan. Finishing last next yr has been the plan for over a yr now. Currently, we're halfway there with a realistic look at it.

Im ok with:

-Reinhart to jr's
-Trade Staff & Stewart
-Call up: Adam, Armia, & Deslauries to fill their spots.

(Prob shave 50 goals off our team totals right there)
- SuperCat

Not even close.

Let's also remember that the Sabres themselves, as much as we know it's a good idea to tank one more year, are still going to try and ice the best roster without forcing kids to play when they're not 100% ready.

Prob wait till the trade deadline to move Stafford & Stewart, more value then.

Armia had a nice post season. That's what exactly happened with Girgensons.

Just for poops and giggles...

Sabres draft 1 and 2 next year...

Would you move the 1st for Kane, still being able to take Eichel...if not

Would you move the 2nd for Kane after taking McDavid

Yes. Next Question. You could probably get Kane and Chicago's 2nd rd pick.

Judging by the Vanek trade alone

October 2013: 1st, 2nd, Moulson
March 2014: 2nd, prospect

I think they're worth more right this second. That being said, and this is just a feeling, only one of them will be shuffled away.

Armia could be a call-up at some point.

He's at that age where guys start to see NHL games. I'd almost wager we see him at some point

If Kane is still not signed for some reason at the draft I think its a safe bet that the Sabres can just sign him as an UFA. I imagine he is either staying in Chicago or going to Buffalo. If Chicago signs him for even close what he is asking I would probably take my chances with McDavid and Eichel in your scenario.

Im fine with Either really. Would rather have McDavid, but If you could get more for the 1st overall, IE Kane plus Chi 1st for the 1 overall, bt only Kane for 2 overall I may give up 1 and draft Eichel.

No one really knows. For what it is worth JJ the hawks blogger did mention the allure for Kane is Buffalo is very real. He wants to step out of the shadow of Toews and win individual awards. (If he does not get the demands from Chicago)

Ive played that scenario out in my head a few times.

If we picked 1st and 2nd, I would take McDavid and auction off #2 for the best offer you can get.

Basically going the opposite route of what the Pens have with Malkin/Crosby. Instead of having both, you trade 1 for the depth to surround the 1 you keep

You would get a king's ransom for that 2nd pick next summer.
