Nope like I said my best guess is they give Kane what he wants and is then moved for a haul.
- dadeadhead

If they give Kane a contract that pays him an AAV of over $10MM a year, it will be very hard to move it, IMO.

Well, they do have this year to get it all figured out still. It's not like they have to before the season starts. Though I don't know that they want it looming over their heads all season.
- HonkFortheGoose

knowing the pens were going to move Neal, if you were GM, would you have given Jokinen 4 mil to remain a penguin?

At that point, you write it off as the cost of doing business. The idea is to win multiple cups as quickly as possible. You sign Kane (and Toews) knowing full well there's a possibility you may buy them out 8 years down the road.

I would have given it to Hemsky! What a great job by Dallas.

And so is Marcel Goc for 1.2M
- Ryan_Wilson

Agreed.

Bolland making 5.5 fvcks up a lot.

Sutter was already making 2.7(his salary last yr). 3mil on a 2-3 year deal would be fair but it skews Pitts cap.

He'll be moved IMO and should be.

Well you called the Staal/Sutter trade to the exact detail a few years ago so I think you should call something like Paul Martin/Brandon Sutter for Patrick Marleau, yes, do that.

He won't need any, he was always a good coach in need of different scenery. Dallas was good last year and they'll be really good this year.

Depth can be acquired on the cheap. Patrick Kane's of the world can't. You have to pay the guys that can do things that nobody else can do.

Don't fall in love with average hockey players and pay them big money (Dave Bolland and soon to be Brandon Sutter). There is always a replacement for those kinds of guys.

- Ryan_Wilson

Agreed.

I think for some teams like the Hawks or Pens, it becomes a revolving door of players preforming at a high level due to the quality of the team they play on. At some point you have to decide just how valuable someone like Bolland or Sutter is and where or how you can replace their production.. Problem is when you have multiple high priced players, The guys like Bolland or Kelser for example that might be the missing piece becomes impossible

I would also bet that if he's signing a long term deal, it'll have a NMC in it. I don't see him giving them free reign to send him anywhere they want.

Per some Pens posters I was crazy and needed to get a clue on Staal's value.

I do think Sutter and Martin get moved together. Maybe Detroit or SJ.

IMO both Jumbo Joe and Patty are off that team by Christmas.

Cant See Murray doing that. While Kane may want to play here at that point, Murray is not/ nor do I think he cares about the local boys wishes.

It is amazing the kinds of rosters you can build without paying attention to silly narratives

LA: Carter, Richard, Gaborik

and now Dallas with Seguin and Hemsky.

Who will be the lucky team when Evander Kane is moved is the real question.

Not dogging the Pens, They have won 1 cup. I guess we should be like SJ then, they never miss the playoffs?

The goal is to win the cup, you do that by having the best team, that may not include (Facts back that up) the best player.

- ImThatGuy

Yes, we would do well to be like SJ. They are hardly an embarrassment, but rather a very respectable hockey operation.

Yes, obviously SJ hasn't won a Cup. But that's easier said than done. Look at the entire history of the Sabres & Bills. If there was a definitive recipe for championships, everybody would have one.

Regardless, you're still missing the point. You argue "having the best player doesn't equal championships", but yet in your example of Crosby & the Pens, THEY HAVE RAISED THE CUP!!.

Poor example there. And now your talking about multiple Cups?!! Getting ahead of yourself much? You've got win 1 first. And you've gotta be in the postseason 2 have a chance 2 dance.
