Got a little bored...I left guys I think can possibly compete at camp for potential spots there. Kapanen excluded because he's not listed there yet. But I would've included him. Zatkoff, Megna, Zlobin and Samuelsson included in that. Cap would change slightly if those guys get sent down or moved. I traded out for Scuderi for a few pucks(We can pray right?) and Martin for Tatar. Re-signed Sutter and Stempniak. Buried Adams. Don't know if they'll try to move him. He's not just DB's favorite. He was a favorite in CAR too and he's also still cheap. I just don't like him taking a roster spot.

Chris Kunitz ($3.850m) / Sidney Crosby ($8.700m) / Tomas Tatar ($1.500m)
Beau Bennett ($0.900m) / Evgeni Malkin ($9.500m) / Patric Hornqvist ($4.250m)
Lee Stempniak ($2.500m) / Brandon Sutter ($3.000m) / Pascal Dupuis ($3.750m)
Blake Comeau ($0.700m) / Marcel Goc ($1.200m) / Steve Downie ($1.000m)
Anton Zlobin ($0.608m) / Jayson Megna ($0.874m) / Nick Spaling ($1.700m)
DEFENSEMEN
Kris Letang ($7.250m) / Christian Ehrhoff ($4.000m)
Brian Dumoulin ($0.832m) / Simon Despres ($0.851m)
Olli Maatta ($0.894m) / Scott Harrington ($0.589m)
Philip Samuelsson ($0.913m) / Robert Bortuzzo ($0.600m)
GOALTENDERS
Marc-Andre Fleury ($5.000m)
Thomas Greiss ($1.000m)
Jeff Zatkoff ($0.600m)
BURIED
Craig Adams ($0.600m)

I believe it is pretty safe to say that if Sutter signs, Spaling is not likely to be kept. That will give your team a bit of cap relief. I like bringing back Stemp, its been completely silent on his name all over, which is odd. I felt he performed well enough to garner some attention.
And of course, double fingers crossed for getting Skuderi dealt away.

Agreed. Makes absolutely no sense. He was good in every spot he played and he WANTS TO BE HERE. Versatility at a cheap price is worth something. If he came back near what he was making before, that'd be great. I like Moss as well, but Stempniak already has the repore with guys.

Sutter might be a good choice to cherry pick on the second line because he is just not that good defensively. I like his offensive up side but again, a fairly one dimensional player who doesn't check all that effectively. Does not force turnovers and unless you combine him with two players who do, he is just not prime material for a third line center. In last season time after time the eye test said, damn why isn't he stronger on the boards.

On a separate note, Vrbata is gone so I have no other suggestions at forward. I see Ryan is pushing Marleau, I'm not sure how I feel about that at this point. I need more info first.

Lastly, I love analytics. It's a lot of what I do at work and numbers give you information. What you choose to do with it is up to you. Those who are critical of the process, think of it this way. If you walk in a casino, what game can you play that has the best odds? It's blackjack. So if you know that are you going to play numbers on a roulette wheel? It has the poorest odds of winning. Numbers help you make decisions.

I think Sutter ends up getting 2 years at $3.375 mil (year 1 $3.25 / year 2 $3.5).

This would cut one year into his UFA time.

Problem with lowballing him and sticking to his qualifying offer, is that he can go to arbitration. With the money being tossed out for third line centers, he might end up getting rewarded with $4 million. And that would be a one year deal, and he'd walk for nothing at the end of it as a UFA.

So, if you can trade him for something of value, great, but if not, you gotta give him a little bit of a raise, or he is gone next summer for nothing.

Oh lucky!

Who knows? Not much there is to do but maybe one more value signing? If a trade is going to happen, it'd be great to get that out of the way but I don't have any expectations yet.

Ahhhh so this is what it feels like to wake up with expectations of seeing Sutter take a one way ticket out of town, feels great!

Thinking about the Marleau trade, after the awful year TK had out there im sure they would be interested in unloading his contract, we have a player in a similar situation. Maybe a change of scenery would benefit both players.

Martin, Sutturd, Scuds, and a pick for Marleau and Kennedy

I wasn't talking about x's and o's, I was talking about philosophies like playing your best players on the penalty kill. It's one thing to do that with the Portland Winterhawks, it's another thing to put your $9.5 mil a year center out in front of some guy's one timer with frequency.

I don't know if anyone noticed but Geno is not very good defensively, Sid is slightly better but is quicker to the puck. Id also just as well keep them of the PK.
We will miss Glass on the PK. He blocked a ton of shots fearlessly.

You don't have to insult me, just argue the facts. Shouldn't writers be above that, able to have a rational discussion without making it personal?

You did not deserve that tone. That was out of character for me.

This is a good idea but, didn't Kennedy get more than he's worth and does san Jose need d-men?

So then it boils down to whether or not EK says he is staying or going... the opposite should be true.

Yeah 2+ mil, but still I bet they would listen if we said we may take that contract off their hands, then club them over the head with the Scuds disaster.

San Jose doesn't need another center either, so that's why I don't think that this Marleau thing has a chance.

@fearthefin Vrbata's off the market too? Sharks' bottom six is going to be a tire fire next season.

Did you see someone mentioned Heatley said he would sign for 2mil? If that's true I would be all over that. Low risk high reward. Thoughts?

I don't think we're a good trade partner with SJ. Wilson made it very clear he is going with youth and turning the team over to the young guys.

Don't think Martin would fit into that philosophy. Sutter.....perhaps.
