i want the sabres to win too. badly. but they are/were caught up in this viscious cycle of being bad enough to never win anything, and being just good enough to never get a difference maker in the draft. the last gm rolled snake eyes on guys he thought he should build around. its a brand new team, and its gonna look like an expansion team for a year or two. we have fans that deserve a winner, and an owner that expects one. just gonna take some time.

No it makes a player with not so big a chip on his shoulder . The last negotiations were contentious . Might have shown some good will rather than jam their offer down his throat.

Only way Sabres will ever win. We've seen nothing but marginal teams throughout the years in Buffalo. You want to know why? Because we usually finish in the middle of the pack and end up getting a draftee that is nothing. We have a chance to change the course of this franchise and break what we had done in basically 90% of the time and that is being a marginal team. You won't win the Cup without at least two top 5's IMO. Look at Pittsburgh, Chicago and LA.

McDavid and Eichel WILL put us over the top. And if someone can't see that then I'm sorry that person just doesn't know hockey.

20% chance of winning for last team and if the last place team doesn't win the lottery they automatically get the 2nd overall. Eichel is still a great consolation prize.

Detroit is a dump, Cleveland, Hamilton Ontario, Pittsburgh, etc....There's plenty of them. That author is just pissed that, for as big of a deal as he thinks his city is, it's team isn't doing any better than Buffalo, and has no light at the end of the tunnel to look at.
I still find it funny considering the giant cost of living gap between Buffalo and Toronto that anyone would even have the fortitude to try to compare them and feel good about themselves.
