I would let you choose Despres or the 1st rounder but not both. - Ryan_Wilson
Is Martin suddenly undervalued in that deal? Thought he would be worth enough that just him, Sutter, and a small kicker would merit a player like Kane. The addition of a good prospect or a 1st seemed to be way overkill to me. |

That description also fits Kulemin.
Ehrhoff
Letang
Scuderi
Bortuzzo
Despres
Dumoulin
Anybody else feel uncomfortable starting the year with that as the top six because of a Martin trade? - hardnosed
Agreed on Kulemin.
That D squad definitely has a chance for disaster, but it could also work out real well. We're losing leadership with Martin, but people often forget that Letang is a vet now. Yeah, he's been immature, but with Orpik and Martin gone and a new regime in house, maybe he'd rise to the challenge of leadership. This isn't Bort and Despres' first rodeo and God knows it's not Scuds', so I don't think veteran leadership is a problem here.
Plus Dumo is suppose to be a hoss, and regular time in the NHL for him is long overdue. |

Ryan, do you think that Kulemin's camp is asking for too much because they know he has a great chance of being successful with Malkin here?
I'm sure Kulemin's agent can't sell him big on other teams with 23 total goals over the past 3 seasons. But with the Pens, they know he'll probably be in a top 6 role, playing with Malkin, and will see his offensive game reborn. It's not like he has much leverage with his goal totals.
Not too many other teams are going to plug him into a top 6 role, and no other team has a Malkin to inflate his numbers. Maybe a two year deal would be in his best interest, then hopefully cash in after? - shinoix66
I don't have any inside information about Kulemin. I think he knows he has a spot in Pittsburgh if he really wants and he is playing the field at this point. Not a bad idea if you are him in my opinion. |

Kane is a legit sniper in his early 20's. Premium asset. |

I would agree Sutter is average but he is a limited shut down guy with his size. He might bring some interest but who is desperate for a center of that quality?
Martin is by far the more attractive bait and must bring a decent return or forget about it. |

What do you think about SJ as a trading partner? What would you want in return for Sutter+Martin? Glancing over capgeek they do seem to be a favorable matchup with us for trades. - Rawdog9755

Guess I am misleading the value of Kane based on the deal Neal got. Considered them pretty similar values in my mind. |

Martin has 1 year left and has said he wants to test free agency. If I'm Winnipeg a place he is unlikely to agree to move to via trade or sign in FA I'd not consider Martin near the value of Kane |

He is definitely a premium asset. The Jets are going to be quite sad to sacrifice such a player and as such the return merits the player being given to the Pens. |

Similarish, but not even close to the same.
Kane is younger by a decent margin, plays a more physical game, and has the rare case of under inflated numbers that are still damn good. Neal is exclusively a perimeter player, only slightly less expensive, and has inflated numbers.
Seeing how their contracts are almost carbon copies of each other, give me Kane any day. His value is much higher than James Neal's. |

He's one of the most underrated star players in the league. I believe he has at least 3 years left in him which coincidentally is the amount of term he has left. |

Nah, we did fine all season with Orpik who is not any better than those listed, Scuds who is the worst of the bunch, and Nisk who is about = with Ehrhoff. |
