I've been saying this exact thing now for a few days. Both Martin and Sutter are expendable. Packaging them together can get you a nice top 6 forward.
Only thing in comparing those players with Hornqvist and Spaling is that Hornqvist is signed for a few more years.
Nonetheless, a guy like Tatar is exactly what the doctor ordered. We would also be creating 7 million or so in cap space if someone else needed to be signed.
I actually think this is an even better option that getting rid of Scuds and bringing in a mediocre top 6 guy like Kulemin. Although, Scuds can still go at any time :-) |

Ryan, do you think that Kulemin's camp is asking for too much because they know he has a great chance of being successful with Malkin here?
I'm sure Kulemin's agent can't sell him big on other teams with 23 total goals over the past 3 seasons. But with the Pens, they know he'll probably be in a top 6 role, playing with Malkin, and will see his offensive game reborn. It's not like he has much leverage with his goal totals.
Not too many other teams are going to plug him into a top 6 role, and no other team has a Malkin to inflate his numbers. Maybe a two year deal would be in his best interest, then hopefully cash in after? |

Your infatuation with gibbons is almost Bylsma like... I don't like it.... lol - nh4442
I don't get the Gibbons infatuation either. He can skate fast, but as a 4th liner, he needs to be able to take some abuse and when you're that small, your game better be skill not grit. In the playoffs Gibbons shelf life was what 2 games? |

That's the thing Megna has more skill and better size and can play the same role... we saw it when he was putting up pts next to malkin and neal. Then he got hurt and was put on 4th line with no help from his line mates... we saw that numerous of times...
I'm not saying he is our savor and should be top 6 guy but geez give him a shot on 3rd or 4th line.. He is an rfa and working on a deal... - nh4442
Love gibbons , he frustrates other teams into penaltys with his speed and has decent hands , definitely an upgrade over adams(not saying much). He should get bottom 6 time and PK for sure. |

If we got Evander Kane...
If GMJR is able to swing anything for that glorious man it would excuse any past or future miss steps in my mind. |

Hes got a chance of being the next Dupuis type of player as well. You can't teach that kind of speed, and hes young, can still get a bit bigger and more skilled. |

If Kulemin's agent believes he will thrive playing on Malkin's wing, he would get a 1 or 2 year deal worked out with the Pens. Just look what playing with our Cs have done for guys. Then, he'd be 29 or 30 when he becomes a FA, and can sign his "Big" contract. |

I won't lose sleep if he doesn't come back, however I think he was one of our better Pk'rs in the post season. I'd certainly rather have him over Adams.....but it guess that's obvious. |

Hold on... he gets 1 out of 10 of his own rumors correct... all we need is an update from a better source and its back on.
Or he peeked in here anytime the last couple weeks. |

Doesn't make too much sense that he'd ask for too much. Would make more sense if he was willing to take a pay cut and a short term deal because he knows Malkin would inflate his numbers by an absurd amount and then he could cash on one last pay day before his career died after his short term contract was up in Pitt. |

I recall Lombardi offering Martin a contract but he opted to sign in Pitt. LA would definetly need Pitt to retain some salary or make cap room.
As for Sutter I thought he was one of Pittsburgh's better players in the playoffs. I think EDM could be a possible destination as the Oilers could use a big third line C to try and shutdown the many elite centers in the west |

What do you think about SJ as a trading partner? What would you want in return for Sutter+Martin? Glancing over capgeek they do seem to be a favorable matchup with us for trades. |

Brandon Sutter is an average 3rd line player. Never fall in love with average 3rd line players.
That description also fits Kulemin.
Ehrhoff
Letang
Scuderi
Bortuzzo
Despres
Dumoulin
Anybody else feel uncomfortable starting the year with that as the top six because of a Martin trade? |
