Cheap, and did well in the playoffs... small sample size, but I think on players under 1 mil, you can love them a bit for the 4th line. |

Most enjoyable blog I have ever read on HB, I am being cautious and not getting over excited about the possibility of moving Sutter.
Brandon Sutter is an average 3rd line player.-RW (gross exaggeration) |

It's undeniable that he made an impact last year. Obviously he was out of place in the top lines, but he was a great grinder who cycled the puck well when he was put with vitale on the 4th and his penalty kills were fun to watch. Every time he'd go out there for the PK I'd yell "Shorty time!" in the bar and I was actually right a couple of times.
Having Gibbons on the 4th instead of Adams is the move. Gibbons was one of the few players Bylsma had right. Now if only people could understand that Megna has a real future on this team. |

One of the more interesting things from yesterday IMO....
Nisky actually turned down more money from the Wings to go to the Caps. |

I have no problem with him, as long as he is used correctly, i.e. bottom 6 and an energy guy on the pk. He has no business playing in the top 6. |

I like the Brian Boyle signing
He would have been a nice fit here at that price and term |

That's the thing Megna has more skill and better size and can play the same role... we saw it when he was putting up pts next to malkin and neal. Then he got hurt and was put on 4th line with no help from his line mates... we saw that numerous of times...
I'm not saying he is our savor and should be top 6 guy but geez give him a shot on 3rd or 4th line.. He is an rfa and working on a deal...

I think the view around the league is that the Wings are on the decline.... Stars are older, and if Babcock leaves, they could go through a rough patch. |

Wonder what SJ would give up for Martin+Sutter. There D looks to be a mess and Martin could immediately help that problem. While he is no Thornton, if there is any truth to SJ looking into moving Thornton then Sutter could offset a bit of that sting. SJ also has the cap space to add their salaries. I imagine Hertl is probably a non starter, but man would that be nice. Pavelski or Marleau? |

Oh don't get me wrong. I'm a much bigger Megna fan than I am a Gibbons fan. Megna has actual top 6 potential where Gibbons doesn't and I was yelling all playoffs about Bylsma putting Gibbons up on top lines while Megna was withering away on the 4th where he was out skating all of his line mates to the point that it was actually detrimental to possession. If Megna didn't get hurt in the middle of the season we would be talking about him right now as a valid in house candidate to fill out the top 6, definitely top 9.
That being said I'd like both. I think Gibbons would be a very good fourth line player and a pretty darn bottom 6 guy and would be a huge boon to the PK. Just don't play the dude out of position at Megna's expense. |
