Paul Stastny and the Avalanche were not able to get a deal done. He'll hit the market tomorrow. #tvasports

Let the games begin.

I think you are bang on dude. I would not be surprised to see a deal get done between Ottawa and Chicago if St. Louis signs him. I always thought Statsny would stay in Denver.

Actually you're right. Didn't realize that he is coming off a $6.6 mil AAV.

I expect 7+ then. Five or six years sounds about right.

he might still, once colorado see what his other offers are, they might be willing to match.

i think it's hilarious that people were talking about him as a compliance buyout just last year, and now people talk about him as though he were a top 10 center in the league. he's gonna get "clarkson overpaid"

if he was gonna take a hometown discount, i'm sure he would have taken it in colorado

he's looking to get paid.

I don't think he stays now. If something was gonna get done I think it would have happened already.

Colorado refuses to pay him above 6m. Blues could offer him 7m and he could easily take that over 7.5 or 8 somewhere like Edmonton. He's from St. Louis, chance to go to a contending team, etc. Just because he'll get crazy offers doesn't mean he'll take them. Leaving Colorado doesn't mean he will automatically go to the highest bidder.

unless he's just trying to put more pressure on the avs to give him more money.

i mean if he was looking for a good team and a chance to win, well colorado is probably the best young team in the NHL, set up very well for a long time. so it seems pretty clear he's looking to maximize his contract, knowing that he hit free agency at the PERFECT time.

Whoever signs Stastny will regret it after year one. Good player but not a true #1 center. Market drastically inflated his value. If he gets north of 6.5 it's a bad move.

you realize that colorado finished ahead of st louis last year right.

he's leaving arguably a better team, the team he's played for 8 years...he's looking to get paid.

he'll put up his 60-65pts, but that contract is gonna end up hurting....no doubt.

Very true but if the offers get stupid like 7 years 7.5 per and the Blues cap out at 5 years 6.5 I can't see anyone leaving 20 mil on the table.

there are so many teams who will want to get him, the offers will get ridiculous.

nobody thought clarkson would get anywhere near what he did last year.....and we all know how that turned out.

he's literally the ONLY ufa option available.

lol. Colorado finished above Chicago and LA too. That doesn't make them the better team. There is a reason they lost to the MN Wild, the team basically everyone else in the division was hoping to face. Just silly if you think Colorado, with that defense, is more of a contender than St. Louis.

well, an 82 game schedule, playing all the same opponents, and they finished ahead of them. so they need to be in the same category of team

it's just as silly of you to dismiss them. yes, st louis has a better group of d-men, but i'd take the avs forwards and goaltending over the blues any day.

So if the avs aren't signing Stastny could they be a potential trading partner for spezza?

you would think so.....not sure who they'd give up though.

spezza is an upgrade over stastny, in terms of offense....so if they were willing to give stastny 6, taking spezza at 7 isn't much different....could prob re-sign him for 6 next year too.

He would be a great signing for the Sens. He is from the region. I stil thinkl Jason Spezza is traded to the Stars for Chiasson and Daley. Another Sens player could be involved in the deal.
- Max2166

Chiasson and Dillon and a pick would be amazing for Spezza and a roster player or prospect.

If StL does land Statsny, I bet Colorado looks hard at Spezza. I still think he lands in Dallas. And don't rule out Phoenix either

There have been ongoing conversations between the Sens and Avs. There is potential for a multi player deal. I think both teams have to see where they come out at the end of the next couple of days depending alon successful acquisitions.

Both teams are on a budget well below the cap. Sens do have some money to spend however.
