He's actually been solid the last 3 years.

Obviously not living up to his draft position, but also not the same useless player he was in minny

Ehrhoff is looking for 4-5 years at $5M per Bob McKenzie reporting on the NHL Network.

Would ya?

I wouldn't mind it at all. Tbh he's a better option that Niskanen who is likely to get 6+mil/year.

Conditional 1st if he signs, 2nd if he doesn't.
- TheCalSen

Problem is, the 'Hawks won't have cap space to re-sign him. Assuming Kane and Toews each get $10 mil, the team would have only $5 mil in cap space for next year to re-sign Saad, Kruger, Leddy, Oduya (both probably won't be on the team next year but point still stands.)

If the 'Hawks want to re-sign Spezza (if acquired), they'd almost certainly have to give up Sharp or even Hossa (if my math is correct).

Perhaps a conditional 1st rounder for 2016 as opposed to next year

Sounds like Niskanen is asking 7 years 6 per. Aiming high but probably ballpark to what he'll get.

i'd never do that for a guy who has about 60 games of good hockey in a 500 game career

Ottawa wouldn't be interested in either Hossa or Sharp, neither would the players likewise.

maybe the fact that buffalo bought him out is incentive to play in ottawa, a place where he'd get to stick it to them 6 times a year.....and play with karlsson

Murray can go after MDZ now since looks like Nash is letting him walk. Kid needs a team that believes in him to boost his confidence.

i could honestly see spezza taking a gaborik type deal, if it meant he stayed in chicago and was on a cup contender almost every year. probably need to give him the same term........but at a cap hit around 5

you'd have to think that sharp's days are numbered with or without spezza being acquired. that's the easiest and most obvious cap hit to move.

i'm sure if he was better, more teams would believe in him.

karlsson, methot, wiercioch, ceci, and maybe even gryba....are all d-men i'd prefer taking a regular shift in ottawa over him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, only got to watch you guys a couple times last year. You guys had no problem scoring it was keeping the puck out of your own net that was the problem. If that was the case, you want nothing to do with MDZ.

I'm not insinuating that the Sens would have to take Sharp/Hossa, I'm saying that the 'Hawks would have to move one of those players in order to attempt to re-sign Spezza (which wouldn't happen anyways).

He'd essentially be a stop-gap player, and if he shows the ability he has (especially playing with Kane) and regains his old form, he could earn one more pay day on the open market the following summer.

Absolutely. And the shame is that dealing him would essentially be a salary dump as opposed to getting excellent value. 30-35 goal scorers (70-80 point players) don't grow on trees and his salary hit isn't even THAT bad ($5.9 mil for the next three years is affordable considering the market in today's game).

If the 'Hawks were able to send him to a team with ample cap space and a need for a top-line winger in exchange for young, cheap talent and draft picks it would be the ideal situation, but at the end of the day it likely won't come down to that, and I'd rather just keep Sharp, but given the circumstances, that likely won't be happening.

Oh I agree whole heartedly Sens, but remember Murray was chasing hard last season this time around to get him from NYR figured the risk reward this time around since it is just cash albeit very limited cash but still.

To be honest now that he is available I would much rather Orpik over him as a solid stay at home def as a stop gap for right now, since he would in theory come in cheaper then anyone else on the FA market if the Sens were to pick someone up that is. Yes I do remember we have a log jam so something has to give anyways.

Good depth signing......has the potential to be this years MacArthur. Also gives puempel another year in the AHL, which is never a bad thing.

Maybe means greening on his way out .....I know, wishful thinking

- sensarmy_11

Macarthur's value was kind of depreciated and he beat expectations put on him. Pouliot's coming off career highs and'll probably get paid more than he deserves. Wouldn't call him this years Mac

he'll likely only get 2.5-3 mil, and is genuinely thought of as a disappointment.....if he comes in and puts up 15g / 30pts, it's a bargain

Pouliot reminds me of Nick Foligno's style of play. Remember how he used to crash the net and put up the odd points but then take the head scratching bad time penalties.

He would how ever bring that edge the Sens were looking for a hell of a lot better option then Stewart or something else that would require a trade for a overrated player.

I am just concerned that this Spezza fence sitting to find a deal is gonna hinder Ottawa's chances at improving the team with other deals because that is the focus right now. Which sucks when you see all the activity amongst the other teams trying to rebuild/retool/or strengthen their teams.

i think stastny will be signed pretty early......that will be everyone's first call. after that, the spezza deal probably happens pretty quickly.

murray will be able to get done what he wants to get done........i hope

Chicago is going to be even in worse cap shape next year. Spezza is simply not doable. My guess, Bowman already knows he needs to do big cuts next year and he will still struggle to get under cap. Cap next year will be in the range of $72.5m. More important, top RFAs are asking for their money now. Subban, ROR and Johansson are
the future of contracting. Hawks are beginning to understand that Saad is going to be very hard to resign unless they change the structure of the team.

Murray talked about this back at the trade deadline. He said that there would be teams caught by the topping out of NHL revenues. Bettman said last week that 5% growth is the future.

You can't afford to give 32 year old forwards long term deals.

I think Murray is responding with a very good game that moves the Sens to the next level of rebuild.

This is kind of what all NYR fans have told me. I'm inclined to believe them, seeing as how they had such high hopes for him at one point.

Fans don't usually turn on a guy so young unless there's a real issue.
