WTF did Washington do? Orpik contract is just awful. They are going to be in cap hell soon. I hope they don't plan on re-signing Mike Green.

It's really starting to be hard to be a Buffalo sports fan.

This city really cannot just catch a break.

I knew yesterday was going too well when many of the pieces we liked were signed.

Then the Kiko news came out.

And now this morning the RJ news.

ugh

In other news, my take in why this is way better than 2011.

Leino and Ehrhoff were brought here on the premise of offense. Leino got 6 years for having one good year (Niskanen?) and we were praying his game would develop.

Ehrhoff was brought in because of his offense and basically just being a quality top 4 guy.

The offense of both of them let us down big time, even though the Hoff was pretty good for us before he mailed it in.

These signings are so much different. Moulson has a reasonable number and is a proven offensive producer. With Reinhart I'm willing to bet he gets back to 30 goals before his eventual decline in a couple years. Gorges is a fantastic second line option not expected to produce offense. Still under thirty with an extremely reasonable contract. Gionta brought in to chip into offense but with low expectations in that department. Character only increases with age with guys like Gionta, so that's a phenomenal acquisition. Meszaros has a one year deal that should put up current Ehrhoff numbers, but there's no risk in a one year deal. Love that too. McCormick still confuses me a bit only because he can't really produce offense at all. We need a guy to punch face now that Johnny boy is gone, but that character needs to be able to put up 15-20 points. Don't know if McMuscle can, but ya know what, he wants to be here and that's what makes me happy.

I absolutely love how we released all of our questionable characters and brought in guys who genuinely want to be here. Fantastic day. The only contract I see may be an issue is Moulson around the last year or two of his deal, but ya never know. Great day Murray, you're my hero.

In TM I trust.

Well apparently, according to some, we are sending Reinhart back to juniors so we don't waste a year of his ELC in a crap year...which makes little sense.

As far as I'm concerned, he has just as much of a chance to make it as he does to get sent down.

Ovechkin + defense lacking a true #1 = 40 million. I think it's finally time to use an emoticon.

If they didn't bring in some of the guys they did, I would agree that it would be best to do that. However, I think he can learn a lot from the guys the brought in and could also benefit from the Pro strength and conditioning regimens. So it wouldn't be a waste of a year. It also gives him the opportunity to learn the pro game without huge expectations on top of it.

To be totally fair, Simmons is a joke to the residents of Toronto as well.

He's like an awful Harrington.

He has nothing left to prove in juniors. He was already the best in his league. Him being in juniors is a mistake, IMO. He can Learn from guys like Gionta, Moulson, Gorges, Girgensons etc.

I agree. Unless he looks really out of place during training camp, I'm fairly certain he'll be here.

People seem to forget we are just at the floor. We are still 12MM under. And will be more under next year when the cap rises again. Paying Reinhart $5MM a year earlier is not going to do any damage. Gionta, McCormick and Gorges will all be up at that point. There is an additional $9MM free.
