Is anyone listening to WGR? They are saying we should have traded Ehrhoff because TM could have prepared for the recapture.

I just wish I could call in and tell them how stupid they are. They also think Ehrhoff will play for $1 million when he is 38 because Dan Boyle is still playing.

The reality is we have no idea what Ehrhoff would have done at the end of his contract. It's easy to speculate and assume he'd retire because he only makes $1 million in that year, but he may feel like playing some more. I still think Murray panicked a bit here, and would rather not see him refuse to acquire assets simply because the team is afraid he might retire in 6 years instead of 7.

From what it sounds like to me, he tried to trade him during the draft. Couldn't get any takers. He didn't like Ehrhoff's attitude and felt it was best to remove it from the room.

Does it suck? In a lot of ways, yes. I thin it does. But at th same time, I'd rather Murray not have to worry/prepare for the possibility of limiting the cap a bit in case he did retire prior to the expiry.

That's just it though. It wasn't that there weren't any takers. It sounds like they didn't feel any return was enough to compensate for the fact that they might (key word might) have to face $10 million of additional cap space. In other words, Murray cut him because teams wouldn't reimburse him for his problem.

It's really a catch 22. I kind of like that he's got more of a clean slate now. The part I don't like is our very young team just got a whole lot younger.

I also didn't like Murray saying he couldn't help improve the team. To me, that says they wanted him out more than he wanted out. That's not to say he wanted to stay, but no matter how no-nonsense and straightforward he sounds, there's more to this story.

I will say Schopp does have a point though. For a team that just justified raising ticket prices because of revenue sharing (which I don't have a problem in of itself), paying a more than serviceable player $12 million to walk away seems more than just a little disingenuous.

Relax now LOL

I think Loui will be playing L1 this year with Lucic and Krejci. He really came into form after the Olympics. I'm not giving up on him yet

More to what though? Ehrhoff wanted to leave. I highly doubt Murray just threw a player under the bus for no reason. He has to convince players to come here someday.

As Murray said, if you don't want to be here we will make that happen. Ehrhoff wasn't thrilled here so they moved him. Ehrhoff also wasn't good enough to dictate any direction the team was heading, so like Murray said cutting bait was easy.

I think you are making it more complex than it is. It's just two parties separating that had differences.

They need to not care at all what we think during this process.

In three years when we are good, you will be surprised how little you remember times like these.

If that was the case, they would have traded him. They would have taken something for him. The reality is he's most likely going to get more per year than he did in Buffalo when all is said and done. A team paying a player more than a team he was just cut by says there's more to that story.

Again, I'm not upset that they let him go. I'm upset that they let him go for nothing. I understand the recapture implications, and I absolutely say "so what?"

Well, Murray just said they absolutely could have traded him. He didn't think that was the right way to go due to the penalties that could be imposed if he retired early. So basically he didn't want to get punished for something Darcy did.

It really was a no win situation. You won't be that upset about all of this when we have plenty of cap space to sign Reinhart and whoever it is that we get next year to the deals they're going to need.
