Wow, Ehrhoff to be bought out.

Murray should be all over this.

Wow, Tim's getting the Cave for McDave process started early. Not to mention 2 other 2015 firsts, of which one will be top 10 (Islanders).

I hadn't heard that. I have heard Neal has character issues. Sens are trying to stay away from those types.

Holmqvist and #11 and something else (?) was the offer?

I would have been very happy with that deal.

Nashville does not much up front left to offer up. Maybe something involving Jossi?

Does not matter, Murray has his bench mark. He will now get his deal from someone.

If St. Louis is a little spooked by Anaheim signing Kesler imagine where they go when Stastny resigns on Tueday and Dallas ramps up their offer for Spezza. Never thought St. Louis had the inside on either Kesler or Spezza, just way too much noise.

Maybe St. Louis has a shot now? They have certainly been humbled into a much quieter posture.

Why not just trade him?

cap recapture penalty thing I guess...in case he retires...even if he is traded does that still come back on buffalo? or maybe that was a concern for teams trading for him...only guesses from
me...I don't know how all that works exactly

Exactly. Sabres didn't want to risk being on the hook for the penalties if Erhoff retired early.

Really... Old?

Spezza 31, Ehrhoff 31, Hemsky 30, Michalek 29...

And, asides from fringe players like Neil and Phillips, these would be our 4 oldest skaters.

Also, it would be just another old team making the playoffs. Frankly, unless you had planned for us to get Eichel or McDavid next year (which seemed unlikely), this seems like the next best thing.

Good blog. A few fans (some already have) will make Spezza the scapegoat again in this cluster(frank). He's doing nothing wrong. The Sens management are the ones struggling to stay afloat with the hand dealt to them.

Nothing against Spezza except that I really hate that players ask for a trade and then still use their NTC.

Who would be getting elite from more ice time next year?

We have three players who look like they'll be top four defenders... That leaves a spot for ehrhoff.

We have a few players who, yes, might be adequate second liners next year... But it would hardly hurt their development to play on the third line on a winning team with more talented veteran players.

Anyways, it won't happen because it can't. That doesn't mean it wouldn't in an ideal world.

I don't fully understand the rules, but it doesn't seem like the Sens would have had much of any penalty

http://www.capgeek.com/fa...-advantage-recapture-work

Anyway, without a change in ownership, no cap penalty would hurt them

What Kesler did was unfair. Demand a trade and list 2 teams. Spezza provided a list of 10 teams as part of a limited no trade, leaving 19 potential destinations - Murray should be able to make a trade and get a good return.
The real question is: what is his tru value? He is a top end talent with a very big cap hit, who is only able to make a big impact when he is healthy, which is 50% of the time. Big risk, potentially big reward. With the cap, the price/value for these players have dropped significantly in the last 5 years.

HELOOOOO...... thats what some of us have been saying for a long time now...

This not directed at you, cause I think you are new here, moreso at the others that have been putting down this notion.

grant it the Erhoff situation is a new wrinkle, but the idea of keeoing that line here and getting a T4 dman has been my wish (and a few others) for a long time.....

Definitely not new, just don't post on everything, mostly quiet because I'm spezza's biggest fan and I have nothing nice to say lately. Berglund sucks... See what I mean?

Ottawa's cap payroll is at 49.72M. If Spezza is traded that's bring it to 42.72M. Add whoever comes back (likely going to be less in terms of cap hit). After signing Lehner (which won't be more than 2M) Sens will still fall short of 5M of the floor. They need to add to the forward group 1st

Ottawa's forward group looks like this (excluding Spezza):

MacArthur - Turris - Ryan
Hoffman - Zibanejad - Stone
Greening - Smith - Neil
Grant - Lazar/Pageau - Condra

would be nice if Ottawa could resign Alfie + Milan (know it's a long stretch)

Holy liftin' Spats .... with all due respect, for a smart guy, sometimes you say some peculiar stuff .....

I agree that the likes of Zibby, Stone, Lazar, Peumple, Ceci, Weircoch, etc. will require more ice time - elite ice time >>>>> but not next year, and maybe not the year after.

Elite teams have a solid mix of middle aged talent along with youthful talent. Anaheim beat us in '07 with it (Neirdermeyer, Pronger along with a young Getzlaf and Perry), Detroit won with it, so did Chicago and Boston.....

You cant win with all vets and you can't win with all youth. you need a mix. I don't care what anyone says, this is a winnig team......

MacArthur Turris Ryan
Michalek Spezza Hemsky
Peumple ZBad Stone
Condra Smith Greening

Neil, Pageau, Hoffman [EDIT] oppsss.... forgot Lazar
If Efhoff or doesn't work out, a trade pkg, with Smith at the centre point could bring us Oduya

Karlsson XXXXX (Erhoff/Methot/Odyua)
Ceci Methot/Oduya
Cowan Gryba

Phillips/Weirchoch

Anderson
Lehner

that team not only makes the play-offs, but challenges to win the Eastern Conference - this year and next year.

Further, as players develop, and tweaks are made (some drop down, or are traded, while others earn more ice time, this team could chnallenge in year 3, 4 and 5 as well......

ya I hear ya, but I truley do beleive that when the time is right, the purse strings will loosen ..... If his team can make a legitamite run, he will spend.
