More like:
2008- Spezza agrees to a contract in Ottawa IF he can list 10 teams he won't be traded to.
July 1st 2013- Spezza updates his list of 10 teams he cannot be traded to
March 2014- Murray explores trading Spezza to one of the other 19 teams
June 11th 2014- Spezza asks for a trade one of the other 19 teams
June 28th 2014- Murray tries to send Spezza to a team he already knows isn't an option, Spezza doesn't change his request.

Compared to the power houses in the league, your top 6 doesn't hold a flame. Spezza wouldn't fix all your problems, but it would be a start. He would be the most offensively gifted centre on your team . Oh, and congratulations on your presidents trophy...

You probably don't know much about the league if you're saying that.

Jesus. LeBrun suggesting the proposed (accepted?) trade was for Patric Hornqvist and Nick Spaling. Brutal.

if that was the return, then i'm glad as hell that spezza didn't waive....i'd rather keep him and move him at the deadline.

Twist my words if that is all you can come up with. Funny all Ottawa fans can do is dog the Blues cause they sure can't say much about there own top 6. I'd much rather be the Blues right now than the Senators as far as talent goes.

just retaliation probably for all the random trolling we have been dealing with from some of the blues fans...id never seen any before and then as soon as trade talk happens it's been several blues posters in here telling us how dumb we all are...gets a little tiresome

i dont' understand the people getting mad at spezza in this situation.

he wasn't handcuffing murray in any way....unlike heatley. murray had 19 teams to work out a deal with, and instead he chose to talk to 2 or 3 of the teams he ALREADY KNEW spezza had on NTC, the NTC that murray gave him.

if this was a full NMC or NTC, then i could understand the frustration and anger, but murray had lots of options.

i don't blame spezza at all.....but at the same time, he better realize that if murray doesn't get the offer he wants, that he's gonna be in ottawa next year, and better play his ass off.

now at the same time, i don't 100% blame murray in this situation. yes, he did throw spezza under the bus, but i don't think it was done with any malicious intent. i think it was his way of helping move this process forward by: 1) hopefully letting other teams who are interested that "hey, some of these other teams in your division are making some serious offers, better step up". 2) maybe putting a little pressure on spezza, letting him know that his preferred teams don't really want him, not enough to pay for him, but these other guys really want you.

now is it fair of murray to do this.....debatable, but at the end of the day, his job is to help the ottawa senators, not jason spezza.

Yeah, there is a weird level of vindictiveness from these blues fans...

Our apologies if we wanted more than a quantity of middling assets for our point per game, erstwhile franchise center.

What is unfortunate with this impasse with the Blues is that Berglund is a nice piece. Good size, right age, plays good two way game. Add in a reasonable second piece and you could probably have found the basis for a good deal.

Too bad it went off the rails.

If a player with a NTC asks for a trade, he should lose his right to list teams he'd be willing to go to.

Nobody should be mad with anyone. This is just the business end of the business. It will all be settled soon enough.

by the same token, GMs who complain about players invoking NTCs should stop giving them out to everyone

i agree.

spezza is doing what he's well within his rights to do. murray is doing what he's well within his rights to do. at the end of the day, spezza will be with a new team....the return will be good, not great, and everyone can move on.

what i wonder is who murray will target in free agency, as once spez is gone, the sens will be like 10 mil under the cap floor

I also think this situation is different in that spezza didnt' demand a trade. He told murray that he'd like to win, so if murray was going to make moves to that end NOW, then he'd want to stay. however, if murray was looking at a re-tool/re-build, and weren't going to be bringing in assets to win now, then he'd like to move on.

that's a little different then what someone like heatley did.

it's kind of ridiculous actually.......all of their players poop gold and piss platinum, while ottawa's PPG center might as well be an ECHL healthy scratch.

there are definitely a few good ones, but their bad fans are among the biggest homers i've ever seen.

Were not talking about the Senators top 6 at all. All I'm saying is that if you believe your team is good enough right now to win a cup you've lost your marbles

I have always believed that Spezza moving on was more about his being pushed. I don't think Murray had any desire to negotiate another long term deal with him. He does not fit the age profile of this team. Most of the key players are a few years away from peak production and the need for bigger salaries. It would have been suicide to commit big money to Spezza and Hemsky four or five years out.

Exactly, comparing Heatley to Spezza in unfair to Spezza. Spezza has been all class his entire career, Heatley is an entitled narcissist to who the world is in debt.
