I don't like Gunnarsson, not a fan. But I do believe he could have been packaged with something else for a better return than a bottom pairing Dman.
- ThePresident

Yeah. With your nhl14 GM connected mode.

It's going to be a long season if this is the answer to Dions pairing partner.
- ThePresident

Nonis said they've brought Polak in as a 5/6 guy, They will find another option for Dion.

Who knows? I don't know who else they have in their system now who could play with Dion. The last couple of days has produced more questions than answers, I think.

I've been promoting a Rielly Phaneuf pairing for months ….give them the offensive situations and let them flourish. Give the difficult defensive assignments to a defensive pairing - which they probably still need to acquire.

I'm going to operate under the assumption that he said that because he can't say "well, we're going to make a push for either

- lumlums[A] or [B] from [team A] to fill this void..."

I don't know about that. Both Gardiner and Rielly need to be challenged and there's no better way to do that than to free up a body like Gunnar who's plateaued as a 4/5 guy (in a #2 hole).

Solid move if you ask me. Not a big fan of having to include a pick, but adding Polak I think gives the blueline an added element. Always liked him in St. Louis.

Polak will cut into Dion's hard PK minutes. Might see a different Dion with better offensive zone starts and a Rielly who will be a year older. Might is the key word.

I'm not down with that. If he is here for next year he is here for the next 6 afterwards.

And maybe Phaneuf learns a couple things from Rielly.

Gunnar isn't poop. He just has inflated stats playing in a #2 role.

Fair enough, me personally, I think Dion is closer to the d-man he was before the contract signing than after. As Dion goes, so does this team. I mean if there's a good deal to make for Dion, I do it, but if we're talking Bryan McCabe dump, (frank) that.

For them to bring in Boyle someone is getting squeezed out.

Right now the Leafs have Franson, Gardiner, Gleason, Phaneuf, Polak, and Rielly.

Chances are Franson is gone, but you also have to factor in guys like Granberg who could make the jump.

NO. Phaneuf can be the stay at home d man. He isn't going to go for rushes like Rielly.
