So lets be real here....
You aren't getting much IF anything back for Versteeg.
So that leaves:
Oduya
Sharp
Leddy
Bickell
Rozsival
As probably the main trade chips. So before we continue the Spezza, or Stasny, or Nielsen love...do the math on cap geek and know right now the Hawk are NOT compliant with the cap.
And also know the return wont' be as high for any trade as it would IF the cap came in at, at least 70 million.
What an absolute kick in the nuts. - SteveRain
Steve. I don't think ANYONE thinks we will get anything for Versteeg...we just need to get rid of him. We'll take an old Zamboni tire if need be. That guy is toast...he was the worst hockey player in the NHL last year. I saw no one as poopty. |

Ditching Zus and Steeg is addition by subtraction. I like Morin on the 3rd line. |

This year they are OK. Next year is a different story. - CBHawks88
Maybe, but it looks fine to me. They'll likely let Clifford and Regehr walk; sign Taffoli, Pearson, and Muzzin to bridge deals; and then decide how much an increase Stoll, Williams, and Martinez need or if they need to go. Certainly not a break the bank kind of situation. They have more power than not because most of the important pieces are RFAs. |

I think we can at least get a bag of pucks.

Mark Lazerus @MarkLazerus 14s
With 21 players on the roster, @capgeek has the #Blackhawks payroll at $69,479,295. So a $69M cap is trouble for Chicago. - hawkshossa81
With 22 players signed, Hawk are $479,000 over the cap.
I hope Wirtz and McDonough aren't taking this getting phucked by the league without yelling their heads off. |

No such thing as cheap Nuck tickets. - Beaver-Warrior
When the Nucks were bad last time I used to pick up Hawks tickets for pennies on the dollar from season ticket holders. I imagine a lot of season ticket "returns" prior to July 11th.
There is also stub hub, and last years tickets were going for a lot less than face value. |

Agree. Why on earth did we even trade for Versteeg to begin with? His performance in the playoffs was comically bad. He STILL found his way back into the lineup when it was clear he was completely ineffective (unless you count his effectiveness FOR Los Angeles).

The Nucks have made three trades in a row so far. Dorsett for 3rd rounder... - Fooseshark
Wow! Their GM is actually making trades! 2015 Stanley Cup is now officially Vancouver's to lose. |

No one gives a (frank) about the regular season. Bicks, unlike Sharp, shows up when it matters most. - CBHawks88
Not to be a wise guy, but the regular season will be pretty important going forward. Not sure the NHL is handing out exemptions for the playoffs. |

>Big market teams should have negotiated a "cap cushion" during the new CBA of a few million dollars
>More Qs for the hard-hitting Chicago hockey journalists to ask: How the (frank) does the NHL wait this long to release the Cap #? And for McD, SBow and that unified front office, when did the Hawks actually know what the Cap # was? And what was the Hawks Cap projection prior to actually knowing? - SnapitUpstairs
Nah, they will probably ask about what sort of momentum the Hawks are carrying into next year off the loss to the Kings.

Sharp is a 0.62/G in the playoffs, Bickell is a 0.59/G player in the playoffs. That's pretty much even... |

SOME would. The ones who don't want a higher cap are the penny pinchers who won't do what it takes to win.
Compare the KC Royals with the NY Yankees over the past 25 years. The dude who owns the Royals is richer than the George was, but George spent money to make his team good. The Royals didn't. Why should George be punished for being willing to put a good team on the field?
The cap protects the ham-n-eggers who are scared to actually compete.

Growth factor was at $68M,new TV money brought in a year early would raise it to $70M so both parties split the difference at $69M. #TSN - hawkshossa81
Which means that much of the new TV money won't be available next year. |

The teams really screwed and correct me if I am wrong are
Chicago
Pittsburgh
Boston
Philly (not sure with Pronger) - kwolf68
If I understand it right the Flyers can be 4.9mil over and drop Pronger to LTIR on the first day of the season and be fine. They have a little more room to work with than the other 3. |

How does that have anything to do with Chicago, and their lack of a 2C ? - Whiskey-Tango
It doesn't. What is does is prove all of the Nuck authorities (like you) wrong about what you were going to get for Kesler.
Kesler would have been a good fit. I still think Nielsen or Eller could be even better due to the cap benefits. Stastny, unlikely, but could be nice as well.
And all 3 of those look better long term than Kesler IMO.
Plus, we keep TT - has more upside than any of the players Benning got or may get in this draft with the picks he has now.
Dorsett, Bonino, Sbisa.... Nucks mediocrity continues indefinitely. |

You know it....
Don't forget....once they miss tonight and stasny goes wherever Tuesday...they will roll out the 19/88 extensions with ticker-tape parade.
Predction: This team will be worse on paper then the team that skated off the UC ice on 7/1.

It always has been important, but we don't need Bickell to score 30 goals to make the playoffs. We have plenty of guys that can score. We need guys like Bickell that can flip the switch come playoff time when guys like Sharp run out of gas. |
