They keep saying they're negotiating with the union, over what, I don't know.
Bettman probably wants $68, union wants $71 - time for McDonough to call Bettman to tell him (as someone here said earlier) to stop screwing the Hawks and other big market teams who make the real money for the league.
That is, if Wirtz really cares more about the product on the ice as the money in the bank. - StLBravesFan
There's an escalator in the CBA that allows the cap to move up, but that would increase the escrow %...which the players DO NOT want |

It has nothing to do with winning a cup every single year. It's about showing the intent to improve. HOW has our roster changed in the past five seasons? Yes, we won a cup in '09-'10 with a NEW roster that was improved. Since Bowman took the reigns that year, HOW has our roster changed by ANY means. Bowman has won ONE cup in the five years, and as a matter of fact, it's not HIM that won the cup, it's Dale Tallon.
May as well say Dale Tallon won TWO cups. Aside for 'Zus who I guess you can say was "instrumental" in the cup run two seasons ago, what exactly has Bowman done to improve the club?
He has been stubborn and has been mooching off of the roster that Tallon has built.
If Bowman wants to leave some sort of hand-print on the team, he has to do SOMETHING rather than act like his hands are tied. You are fortunate to play in a terrific market with a terrific fan base that EXPECTS to win year in and year out.
You have to adapt. - TommyHawk
How has our roster changed since 2010? Well....let take a look at this past years roster....in BOLD are the players who won the cup with the Hawks in 2010.
SHARP-TOEWS-HOSSA
Saad- Handzus- KANE
Versteeg ( he was traded then reaquired) -Shaw - Bickel
Smith - Kruger - Bollig/Morin/Regin/Nordstrom
SEABROOK-KEITH
HJALMARSSON - Oduya
Leddy - Rosival
Brookbank
Crawford
Raanta
The year we swung out on Iginla...we won the cup
Swung out on Steve Ott...when? and this may be a good thing
Kesler....still yet to be determined whether or not this will impact us at all based on moves that still could be made....
And when did we have deal for Bobby Ryan?.....isn't he an RW? |

canucks just cleared a ton of cap room, got picks, sbisa. and bonino. they now can fill holes in free agency. Hawks are paying a third line winger $4mil, Q will not play NHL prospects, and shy of Shaw, they have no one for #2C.

Right... Oduya. Rozsival. Zus. Shaw. Saad. Leddy. Frolik. (All guys Bowman brought in/drafted)
None of those guys had anything to do with the Hawks winning the Cup last year.

Choosing sharp and bolland over Ladd, versteeg, and buff.
Choosing hammer over the greatest goalie in history, niemi.
Signing Kane and toews to very cheap extensions back in 2010.

I forget who posted it, Does Sharp move to center? If so it would open upthe number of possible replacements on the wing. |

Everyone is so bent out of shape about what the Hawks don't have they completely overlook what the Hawks DO have. - paulr
Major cap problems, which inhibit their ability to solve problems.
Phuck the core: they have the same 2 1/2 lines that lost to LA; the same 2 (only) centers; if important assets now have to be moved just to stay within the cap - and probably even worse cap issues next year - they have limited ability to creatively solve problems. |

If Q won't play prospects how did Andrew Shaw or Brandon Saad ever become Blackhawks? This meme is used up...Q will play guys who deserve and earn it based on this. SURE, I wish we could have seen more of Jeremy Morin, but we didn't and given Q's knowledge and proven willingness to PLAY kids I suspect there was a legit reason Jeremy didn't get the call. |

This is interesting.
IF we are to believe reports, Kane was putting serious pressure on the FO to get Kesler. How did that "being a Richard" and lighting "fire under his ass" work out? |

It doesn't really matter. He's not waiver exempt but if he did pass through waivers a cap hit of that size comes off the books (but he still gets paid $800K). |

I don't see what the point in him leaving money on the table is...
Giving extra money to Bowman to improve the team is a waste.

this is still a WIN in the offseason once they announce the extension for 88 / 19 and move some defensemen for a decent center (Vermette, Z. Smith, Turris, Nielsen) - ChicagoDave
I'd call it a WASH...
If that's the result the Hawks are treading water. Hawks don't need another "decent" center, they need another great center. Stop asking third liners to play a top 6 roll.
If the Hawks expect greatness, if they want to remain on top, if they want to win cups...
...acquire a legitimate no. 2 for center ice.
But the day isn't over yet...but the clock is ticking. |

In case nobody watched the playoffs this year: the Blues beat themselves, we were bad, and the Kings didn't beat us by as much as they should have; we were mediocre, and so were they. The Kings are a better team. Now Anaheim is, too. The Blues are a better team, and will likely improve. We have our keys getting another year older, Morin will likely be a 4th line starter, Bickell is horrid, Sharp is ... Sharp, and now we don't even have Crapzus for a 2C. Just how have we improved? Oh, wait, Bowman will resign Morrison! All is well! |

I take that back. I was just frustrated (still am). Just letting out steam.
Fact of the matter is, he can only get so far with the team he inherited. I'm not saying he needs to go ape sh*t and trade half of the roster, but he DOES need to make apparent changes in order to improve the team.
Acting as if you are a cash-strapped organization year in and year out by making minimal changes will only get you so far.
As I stated earlier, if I'm Kane, I WANT a legitimate 2C and I have every right to demand one given I am a franchise player. Kane has leverage and he should have every right to beg the organization to get him one. |

Nah.. It's done. No one else on the market is worth the $$ or assets we'd have to give up.
The revolving door at 2C begins.... Between Shaw, Saad, and TT. |
