3 signings by Blackhawks today: Antti Raanta, Ben Smith and Jeremy Morin. All for two years. - mrpaulish
oh now it makes sense; Who needs Kesler when we have Morin? |

This may shock you but I agree with Paul on this statement.
I just don't see it happening if that cap is below 70. They will be f'd. - SteveRain
Not if they can clear space and the rumour is they are trying to do just that |

I am just tossing out names. Turris is at 3.5, Neilsen is at 2.75...both are capable, talented players who would (you'd have to think) flourish with Kane and Saad on their wing.
So my point is I don't "necessarily" want THOSE two players, but players LIKE them, though I have always thought we should have been in on Neilsen. Turris has maturity issues, but seems to have grown out of them. - kwolf68

Well.. I'm not sure you should be typing such logic on a day like today. You don't agree with the fact that the Hawks should have traded Leddy, Saad and a first and destroyed their cap for future seasons.
Damn you! - CaptainBlackhawk
Who said they should have traded Saad? I said NO to that.
Leddy? Teuvo? Sure.....not Saad. Saad is proven, and if Teuvo sniffs Saad's jock I'll be floored.
I think all these Teuvo Time people are in for a big let down.... |

Isn't the point of the 2C exercise to sign a center who can allow Kane and Saad to flourish?? |

Bottom line is we don't know the conversations nor what the Hawks offered.......and in the end maybe the blackhawks backed out because of many reasons...like-
Impact on the cap......
Better deal/option elsewhere.....

If by July 5th, the Hawks are sitting there with the same roster that we're looking at today, then I'll be a bit concerned. |

Because IF they were actually in on Kesler, and that was the Hawks offer, Anaheim still got a better package. |

You betcha...
And again, why 19/88 contracts are HUGE for this CBA to slide in the next tiered guys in the league. Maximize earnings from top to bottom. - SteveRain
IF the cap actually turns out to be lower than expected, does that open the door to the possibility that the wonder twins sign more cap friendly deals? |

From now on, anytime I see the 'Hawks mentioned in ANY sort of trade rumor, I will IMMEDIATELY shoot it down.
Tired of the same old crap from Bowman.
Someone said it best earlier, he's the baby-sitter of this team. NOT a GM.
He's good for nothing but cap management.
Iginla - MISS.
Ryan - MISS.
Kesler - MISS.
Ott (at the time) - MISS.
The story goes on and on.
Another "I'm happy with our team..." speech coming up, and another playoff exit along the way.
Patrick Kane should be LIVID. If I'm him, I'm HOLDING OUT on a new contract until I SEE that I have a new 2C ... not just told I might get one.
Kings and Ducks improve, and you know that the Blues will push hard for Stastny (and will likely get him).
But hey, at least we have "good" prospects ... right?
I could continue on and on and on but I should have known better than to get my hopes up.
Oh well.
Cheers to another 2C roulette this season.
Vernon Fiddler, Marcel Goc, Jeff Halpern, Zenon Konopka, Peter Regin ... come on down!!! |

Nah, IF Sharp gets traded it wont be to the Blues, i just hope something decent comes back. Either multiple young centers that are cheap and valuable (even if not COMPLETELY ready to take on the 2C role immediately) or one cheap solid NHL center just to bolster depth and get cap relief. - BlazinMike
I know...was being facetious....
...for the most part.
I'm just now starting to question SB and Co. ...the day isn't over, and the summer is young, but I'm now expecting to hear...
...."we like our roster" |

I think the wonder twins will sign friendly deals. Depending upon final cap numbers.....8.5-9.375 is my educated guess. Fair for both sides. |

You do realize they've been the most successful franchise in the NHL over the last six years or so right? You also realize they can't win a Cup every single year, right? |

I'm going to go with the fact the Hawks probably had some interest in Kesler, but weren't going to pay a hefty price. |

I think very well it could be both, and I that's whY I don't see how the hell they get Spezza at a 7 million AAV. To do that they move some salaries and for a 1 year rental?
If it's not a trade....I think they load up for legit run at Stasny. |

every year it's the same thing. Blowman will undoubtedly sign someone else's washed up reject, and Kane will be stuck having to play with it. we might well lose Kane because of this.
