More worried about filling PK time. Lose 16&26 = PK hole. - resqmed99
Those are quite easy to acquire through trade or FA, especially for contending teams. |

Hi, Snapper. It will be good for the fans if they are "effectively active", imo. Those acquired need to do what they are intended to do. |

So IF Kruger goes, Shaw gets moved to 3C. Who is 4C, and who plays next to Kesler on 2PK?
I still think Sharp needs to get moved for his cap space. |

Screwing around on Capgeek with their armchair GM. I doubt they would/could make so many moves, but if they were to deal Leddy, Oduya, and Rozy, and send Kruger and picks/prospects to Vancouver for Kessler, that leaves them with plenty of room to resign Ben Smith, Raanta, Morin if they want to, and add a couple of veteran dmen, even one at $3 mil to play with Hammer and say one at $1 mil. to play with Rundbland/Dahlbeck.
A few free agent d-men who averaged the 20 mins per game ice time of a 2nd pairing:
Tom Gilbert
Brooks Orpik
Andre Benoit
Willie Mitchell
Kyle Quincey
Those guys made $3 mil or less last season. There are a few others who made more and lots of other guys who had much worse +/-
So there are some options if they got very aggressive, besides adding someone in trade.
Brookbank could be resigned around $1 mil. to be in play on that 5/6/7th dman role. I'd much rather have him back than Rozy, although I'd rather have an upgrade.
Just an example and the dmen could change, Smith/Morin/Raanta's salaries could be slightly higher but there is a tiny bit of cap room to accommodate that.

You mean that guy who was 1/3 of the Hawks most consistent line last season? I remember him. I also remember that he was a regular PK'er in his time at RFD, so maybe he is part of the answer there. |

Think of all the line options Q has if they keep 16 while acquiring RK. Moving 16 here not only mandates even more money being moved in other deals, it forces SB to ante-up for a 3C. Too bad Bolly is a health risk while asking too much. |

Saad? Smith? Didn't Versteeg see significant PK time in 2010? Seem to recall him scoring some shorties.

Would the Islanders deal Bailey?
He does have a $3.3 mil cap hit. Which could fit in this year with another move or two, but keeping both him and Kessler for 2015 with the T and K raises could be an issue.

Not sure about Steeg but I think both Saad and Smith (in particular) got better on pk as the year wore on.
I like Kooga but don't they have 3 more iterations of him at RFD in Nordy, Hartman, Danault; maybe not all ready for the big club yet but Shaw or Smith would certainly be fine at 3C.

1. It's Toews. Learn it, live it, love it. 2. Don't view a single move in a vacuum. 3. 'guins have cap issues, deal with it. 4. Can't sign? FA isn't even open. 5. I am putting 19/88 at $75M/8yrs each. - blackhawk24
From McKenzie earlier....
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 10h
It's believed Kane-Toews initial ask of CHI on extension is around $12M/yr each. They'll end up lower but still could be $10M+ AAV players.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 10h
If there are two guys to redefine new CBA era/rising cap, it's Kane and Toews. Each has one year left on existing deal. Fascinating dynamic.
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 10h
Many agents believe cap could be as high as $75M for 2015-16, continue to escalate rapidly. Double digit AAV for superstars may be new norm. |

Not convinced gloating has been the issue, until now Bowman and Co. haven't been convinced they really needed to do something big in the trade market. All they have really done is dump prospects who they decided weren.t in future plans or moved players like Bolland and Frolik who they could lose to fee agency.
Now, Bowman is or should be looking worriedly over his shoulder at the Wild, Stars and Blues in his own division and at the Ducks and Kings.
Time to belly up to the bar and address roster deficiencies in a big way. And bring his prospect and draft pick wallet with him. |

Bettman was quoted today saying the final assessment and consult with the Players Assoc. takes place tonight...
...numbers to be announced very soon, likely tomorrow before the draft. |
