Funny that Eric Engels reports that Philly is trying to grab that #1 pick yet you don't see much play in the media about it.

That's generally how good business operate: under the radar. That said, PHI traded Hartnell 2 years after being re-signed and apparently now have Lecavalier on the block just 1 year after signing him. Not sure how good that business is running these days.

Stoked for draft day tomorrow, hopefully it gives me something to enjoy on my commute. If we get bent over in a trade though at least I will get home faster as I will probably be forced to ram every car in front of me

In the age of social media a rumour just gets confirmed when enough people re-tweet it. I don't put a whole lot of stock in all the speculation out there. Of course Benning is interested in moving up in the draft, who isn't ? Every (frank)ing writer out there is trying to slant things for the team they cover in order to generate interest and revenue.

I wouldn't call it a rumour of Dale Tallon himself basically said that the Canucks are in on the 1st overall and that they have one of the top 3 offers.

Of course, I work in Richmond. And 16 is the age of consent BTW.

Not if you're older than 18, in which case it is 18. You're welcome bro.

How recent was this? Last I heard Tallon had only had one offer that wasn't underwhelming
Edit: which was this morning

Link please.

Granted I've been out all day but from what I saw he never mentioned teams, nor the pieces.

Agree 100%. It does amuse and alarm me in equal measure how much so many jump all over a comment uttered, a few tweets made, etc which point to nothing concrete but to the "where there's smoke there's fire" territory.

If the #1 pick is in play, 29 GMs should have made at least 1 phone call to inquire what the going rate is. That is their job. "Pundits" however will automatically throw names into the equation in an NHL 14 format to generate hits, not for the team but for themselves, in an era where "having sources" and breaking trades seems to be worthy enough to establish one's own website.

You seem like a man who likes to live on the edge Zogg, I'll peruse my wares and find a suitable piece of merchandise for you. Umbilical cord still attached or no? I hear it is a delicacy in some parts of the world

Benning said he had had two conversations with Tallon re: first overall, which honestly doesn't seem like much. The sense I got in his interview was that they were expecting to pick at 6th. May be posturing but it seemed sincere.

That's why you stick with guys like Bobby Mac and Lebrun. They may not break every trade ( although it's pretty damned close ) but they don't just throw poop to a wall to see if it sticks neither.

Botchford among others, just tries too hard.

Botch always has something interesting to say, but never seems to have any substance to his musings. I find it hilarious that some of these guys are less credible than random board posters. Some guy on HFBoards claimed his friend who is "connected" called the last three Canuck trades hours before they happened and claims Kes is going to Detroit of all places

Yep. I've got a lot of respect for Bobby Mac. I basically treat his tweets like press releases.

Botch, Pratt, Murphy, Gallagher, these guys are sports analysts who masquerade as insiders. It's like saying someone who covers the TSX for the Globe and Mail has insider trading contacts.

On a separate note entirely, since I first heard of Kesler's list I had always felt DET had the best young assets for a return. And for all their talk of not needing him, they've experimented plenty with Datsyuk and Zetterberg on the same line. Kesler on the 2nd focusing on the opposition's top line would open up so much space for those 2 to go to town I can't see a Kesler as being anything other than essential to that team.

Pratt is an absolute idiot and does not deserve the same pen space as the other 3.

He was on TSN's draft pre show today and said so in his interview with James Duthie. They'll probably replay it tonight if you wanna watch it.

Did you hear that idiot Bill Watters on 1040 this morning? Holy sh!t. I cannot believe he's still allowed to publicly voice... words. Made Pratt seem like a freakin' hockey genius. Scary.

Renaud Levoie

And sometimes Dreger.

I think it's a good fit. They have a decent pick as well, and some pretty good D prospects. Would be our best bet I think

My 2 cents on Detroit are that the Weiss contract is holding them back.
