this sounds like something Eklund would write

TRADE WINDS COMING, DOMINOS, MORE TO COME
but there is never any further update...

- chidori

I have been trying to look at Ek as a new age/existential glass half full hockey blogger....

Anyway, I was/am expecting a bit of minor trade activity (roster spots and cap space stuff) before the big ones happen... but I guess with pre draft gm meetings it all gets pushed to tomorrow.

All 'newbies' have to prove their worth by streaking down Robson Street and make it the 6 o'clock news before they can post again.

McKenzie on Team 1040: I do get sense that something has happened in the last 24 that has accelerated things on Ryan Kesler front. #Canucks

From Dreger:

As things escalate on Kesler watch, hearing teams are trying hard, unsuccessfully, to get on his list.

(frank)ing Kesler.

- Nucker101

I don't think kesler wants to get out as bad as the media make it. I am sure if he did, he would have a larger group of teams. He is extremely competitive and wants to go to a winner if he goes anywhere. I could really see him staying as well, not in favour of this.

Wonder if that ties to the Dreger tweet. Teams not on his 6 list are making quality offers, but Benning has to convince Kesler to consider expanding his list.

Benning has to keep bringing in these teams and chip away at his resolve. He won't want to be here once the season starts, and answer silly questions about which teams are not on his list and why. Such a diva.

I'm liking this kid more and more!!

Most impressive kid at today’s #NHLDraft session was Leon Draisaitl of Prince Albert (WHL). Confident but not overstated, very mature. #CBJ

Interesting. And what about Ehlers/Virtanen/Ritchie/Nylander? Any comps for them?
- Nucker101

Only bothered looking @ the guys projected to go ahead of us who we might consider trading up for or could drop to #6. In doing so, realized that I honestly like Ehlers better than all of them, but if forced to choose between him & a franchise centerman I'd have to go with the C because they're impossible to acquire & the countdown to Hank's Swedish retirement is underway.

Slow day today. We need to inject some life on this board.

Trade scenario

Markstrom to philly for Vinny.

cap relief for Philly to trade for buff. Creates room in Van for Hiller.

Keep Kesler till tdl and play vinny on his wing. Finally Kes will have a playmaking winger. Then when trade Kesler Vinny can the the mentor for Bo. Same as what Sundin did for Kesler.

Yuck. Vinny is done and how many crappy years are on his contract? Hiller, not worth it. So Canucks pay upwards of 8 to 9 million extra for Vinny and Hiller to do the Flyers a favour?

I don't know about "done". He had more pts per game than any Canuck not named Sedin or Kesler in an oddly limited role (which is why he wants out of Philly). I'd happily move on from the Sedin era into the Desjardins North/South hockey era by acquiring Vinny on the cheap as our stop-gap 1LC then trading the Sedins for Rick Nash+ & aggressively turn this roster over into Desjardins vision.

I'm just ready for change yo.

Meh, I don't think Dreger has any legit sources in Vancouver, most of the info he's getting has to be coming from around the league, and I doubt they know about all offers the Canucks are getting and from which teams.
- Nucker101

Dredger gets his leads from eklund !!! So just wishy washy nonsense

Just got banned for calling someone a (frank)ing idiot in EK's thread. But feel free to share this. It's the quality of competition(measured by average ice time of the players they play) faced by the top prospects:

Nikolaj Ehlers 31.70%
Brendan Perlini 31.10%
Leon Draisaitl 31.00%
Josh Ho-Sang 30.90%
Ivan Barbashev 30.70%
Sam Bennett 30.70%
Robby Fabbri 30.50%
Jake Virtanen 30.50%
Nikita Scherbak 30.30%
Nick Ritchie 30.30%
Michael Dal Colle 29.80%
Conner Bleackley 29.80%
Sam Reinhart 29.10%

In all seriousness, I just don't want this turning into another fiasco where the GM thinks he can get more value for the player than he's ever actually going to get (i.e. Lu2.0).
- Michael_Stuart

That's bull. Benning should tell Kesler you are staying unless you give me 10 teams. If you don't I will revisit it in the off season. End of story.

couple Qs
what would that 2.6% translate to in terms of real time or in a game etc.
what if someone was scoring on defensive players who were in a shut down role and didnt play huge mins? Wouldnt that look like a slight on someone when it was an actual plus?

just trying to understand this before I say OMG Sam R has been babied.

Here's my justification for liking Draisaitl ahead of Reinhart. I see stuff in Draisaitl's game that makes me think of a potential Joe Thornton/Pavel Datsyuk hybrid (minus the latter's Selke skills). I see Reinhart as a poor man's Marc Savard/rich man's CoHo. When it comes to Bennett I draw a blank because he's got a pretty rare skillset - offensively, he's basically everything I wish Kesler was, but isn't... yet still has all of Kesler's best traits. DalColle for me is kind of a Jamie Benn lite.
- DrChristianTroy

My justification for Draisaitl is that he is bigger and played a better game than all of his peers at 16 only now are they catching up but he keeps getting bigger physically. Soon his hands and feet will catch up again and he will be much farther than them all over again. The kid is a better two way player and will show his natural scoring touch again soon.(which I don't think he has lost just slowed with size).
