were did i say lets get rid of them? i posted the numbers and they don't lie. how can you be a cup contender when you have 8.9 million in cap space to fill 11 roster spots? - SaskHawkFan
You aren't wrong in anything you are saying. The fact is that it is difficult to get all the talent you need to be a contender every year. At least by paying through the nose for it. That being said JT and PK were drafted to be the face of the franchise and that is what they will remain. Whatever it takes, you make it happen. Our scouting system is one of the best (from what someone said yesterday) and youth always steps up as years progress. Times are-a-changin' but these young guys in Rockford will need to come up eventually and are being groomed to do so. Once 19 and 88 get paid, we have a better understanding of that timetable. |

The longer it goes with no trades the less likely it will happen. Stan has had plenty of time to work this through. The closer we are to the draft the pressure to make a decision comes in to play. Just don't see Stan doing it. JJ mentioned it. Stan simply does not have the guts to send a core guy on a trade. Hope I'm wrong but Stan is consistent. Not a risk taker. As long as the Hawks stay competitive he's ok. This is a great team. Couple of roster upgrades and this team could be historic with another Cup or two. - z1990z
I disagree with this statement. Vancouver is going to wait until the end to decide on Kesler because the draft is what causes a deadline, given that one of the main trading pieces is going to be draft picks. There have been few trades around the league so far, and those that have occurred have been small. We don't know anything yet. |

Agreed. Within two years, those two at $10mil/yr will be significantly below market value for comparables who are hitting UFA status at that time. Not even debatable. - BreakoutHockey
It not debatable... but its what players who want to win do when they want to win for the city/team they are with... If they dont care who they play for then no, they wont take 8/80.
If they want to make history together and help the Hawks build a dynasty, they will...
Ball is in their court about how much they are "willing to take". |

Your choices are a) sign them to a mutually-negotiated deal, in which the players (rightfully) have all the leverage as impending UFAs in the prime of their careers (likely in the $10mil-$11mil range) or b) don't sign them.
You can't just sign them for $8.9mil because it looks better on CapGeek. - BreakoutHockey
the 8.9 million is what we would have left in cap space if the twins got 12m a year contracts. |

88 Wants a direct line from 3Floyds to his house, where he can have a Zombie Dust anytime..

And it might go until the 10th Pick is chosen as well. If the DUCKS are including that as part of their deal, if I'm VAN, I wait to see who is there. |

very true and we have some good prospects coming. but in the end we all better hope the cap GOES way the (frank) up if we hope to see what we have in the last 4 years. |

But you also still have Sharp, Hossa, Bickell, Versteeg, Shaw, Bollig, Seabrook, Keith, Hjalmarsson and Crawford under contract. Obviously we will resign Saad at some point, so cap goes down a little more but that sure is a lot of talent in that group still. |

As I said. Hope I'm wrong, but the pressure builds as the draft approaches. Let's hope Stan sees the light. |

some of the parts would have to be moved it would take a very large increase in the cap to keep them all. like the numbers say to keep all those guys and 19 and 88 at say 12 million we would have 8.9 million of cap space to fill the rest of the roster 11 spots. be darn tough |

I'd be ecstatic if they Toews and Kane both sign 8 years for $80M. - Dannyboy
I'd be even more ecstatic if it were $72M apiece. The greedy fan in me wanting as much cap flexibility as possible for SB says the extra $2M could really help. But I won't hold my breath.

Correct, but we have a lot of talent to move (in theory). I'm not saying we keep all of those guys but I also think we will stay very competitive. I'm sure there is a plan in place already. |

Stand his ground? What "ground" does Bowman have? Kane and Toews are ridiculous skilled, accomplished, and popular players in their mid-20's and they are about 370 days from becoming UFAs. There is only one side in this negotiation with any leverage, and it's certainly not the bean counter. - BreakoutHockey
So if you're the GM you just bend over and say how much? This is completely a one way negociation? So if they come in and say we want the max you just say ok?
If I'm a player in the NHL, I want you as my GM. |

Players who are the primary reason for the revival of a franchise, two Stanley Cups, millions upon millions of dollars in revenue generated, etc. should not be "willing to take" significantly less than market value. Particularly, a) in a game when your career and future earning potential can end of the blink of an eye and b) for owners that have no problem shutting down the league to avoid paying players what was mutually agreed upon in contracts they signed.
If Kane and Toews sign at $10.5mil/yr for 8 years, that will be seen as under market value within 3 years, if not sooner - much like Crosby's deal looks like now.

No. But again, tell me what leverage he has.
And, Bob McKenzie said they asked for 12 and will likely get somewhere around 10. If that is the case, that sounds like a two-way negoTiation.

Stan Bowman will be talking with reporters at 2. It'll be interesting to see if he's as adamant about Sharp staying as Rick Curran was.
Dreger also said Kesler deal may be inching closer which was retweeted by Laz right after this

The Blackhawks have some leverage. It's not a lot but I never said that they should play hardball. I just said that they should try. And they will. |
