For those who give a rats ass, Eddie O was just the Game here in Chicago and had this to say.
-is not sold the Hawks won't trade Sharp
-thinks if Hawks get a legitimate #2C, Toews will be a top 5 scorer in the league
-says Saad is untouchable but would listen on TT if the return was right.
-not sold that Leddy will be a Blackhawk come opening night.
-wouldn't even attempt to sign Brad Richards, says he's too slow to play in the West. - dan9189
After Sharps agent went balistic...folks are still betting that StanBow swings a trade with Sharp and somehow gets Sharps permission around his NMC/NTC.

A whole lotta BS being pumped on this. Somebody(s) are dead wrong...and I have my convictions who they are....
fully expect sharpie to be with his sharpie signing autographs at the mid July convention |

my take is if we sigh both to 10+ million a year contracts we can look back at 2010 and 2013 as the only cups will win with Toews and Kane as Stan will be handcuffed and we will become like the penguins and loss because of lack of depth. - SaskHawkFan
So...we will have a better chance of winning the Cup if we play hardball and don't sign Kane and Toews?
NHL revenues are skyrocketing. The cap will skyrocket in accordance. This is the price of doing business.

Hey what was up with Campbell going to the Cubs with Sharp last night? I mean it's not like Campbell lives in Chicago right? Could it be to convince him to come to Florida if a trade is in place and has to waive whatever trade clause he might have?
3 way deal where we get Sharp and maybe a couple other pieces or later 1st round pick, Vancouver gets the 1st overall, and you get Kesler? - BravePackCats27

Last I heard, Campbell still lived here in the off season.

Possible conversation at game last night
PS: Brutal year with FL this year?
BC: Just like the Cubs
PS:If PK and JT make 12 million each the Hawks will have the same chance as the Cubs to win it all.
BC:OK come to FL and bring Seebs

really 24 million of your cap or 1/3 going to 2 players. how do you fill a roster that can win with no cap space? |

Realistically Stan has two options:
1. Give Kane and Toews what they want and move other players to remain cap compliant if necessary; or
2. Sign one of Kane or Toews and trade the other.
In my opinion there is no choice, Stan has to go with option #1. Even if Stan signs them for $12 million it's not like the deal is going be a killer for all 8 years. Maybe it hurts for the first couple of years, but that its. Next year they are still making $6.3 million, so the first year of their new contract the cap will likely be around $75 million (or so it's been estiamted). - DarthKane
Agree that Option #1 is the only real option but the other variable is the length of the deal. They wouldn't HAVE to go the max 8 year deal. They could meet in the middle to give both sides some flexibility. Not sure why they would but it's an option.

2015-2016 if they get 12 million each with the players signed we have already we would have 8.9 million to fill 11 roster spots, need some damn good and cheap youth to do that and win. |

Well if Toews and Kane will make around 20-24 million in a year after next season we know that Kesler won´t be playing in Chicago. And Teräväinen with ~0,9 caphit is looking much better option for now and in the near future. What will be Brandon Saad´s next caphit? Better sign him now too to Leddy type of bridge deal if he continues to play like this years playoffs next season also. Sharp will be gone, sooner or later. Spezza could work for a year..maybe Senators could retain some of his salary or something?
Amateur scouting, drafting and player development are keys to success in cap era. |
